The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit doesn't require from you knowing Life is Strange, so it's a good starting point to this universe. Chris' likeability should hype you enough for the sequel.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit isn't a long game, and you'll probably take up to three hours at most if you really want to complete everything. The story, despite being on the short side, was warm and heartbreaking at the same time, and it all comes to a head when an epic ending reveal sets up what could be an impressive and unexpected springboard for the story in Life Is Strange 2.

Whether you continue the story in Life is Strange 2 or not, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit can, and will, give you an emotional trip down memory lane. It works perfectly as a stand-alone product, but there's no doubt that it's leading into something even better. We don't know exactly where its sequel is headed, but the clues paint a picture I can't wait to see.

Captain Spirit does well balancing itself as a clear setup for Life is Strange 2, while also functioning well as a standalone tale. Fans of the series will love how the storytelling mechanics have evolved from the first game, while general adventure game fans should enjoy the multiple dialogue choices, the greater emphasis on inventory, and the numerous puzzles scattered throughout the house.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is the endearing, heartbreaking tale of a kid who imagines himself to be a superhero. It's not very long at 2 hours tops, but Dontnod Entertainment uses this teaser for Life is Strange 2 to show they still have the stuff to tell a great story. Captain Spirit isn't really a complete story though and you'll leave this experience with more questions. Ones that will likely be answered in the next game.

Chris is like the person who, we fans of video games and comic books, always loved to be. A child who flew over the boundaries of adults reality, A child who was never born.

After Dontnod's ambitious but deeply flawed Vampyr, it's great to see them return to form with Captain Spirit. E3 is a whizbang explosion of PR hype for huge titles sporting adrenaline-pumping action. In the midst of all that, it was easy to miss Captain Spirit's heartfelt trailer about childhood wonder. But this free title is a must play.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is an easy recommendation for Life is Strange fans as well as for those who have never touched the series before. Clocking in at 90 minutes, the episode can easily be completed in a single sitting; the episode's characters, on the other hand, will stay with you long after you put down the controller. If you have a free afternoon and some space on your hard drive, you have no excuse: Give Captain Spirit a whirl. It's free.

The demo may only take a few hours to complete everything there is to see, but The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a fantastic introduction to Life is Strange 2. Thanks to new mechanics and abilities It changes the way you approach the game and I have a feeling the best is yet to come. Either way, we know now we’ll be hearing more from Chris and Captain Spirit and that can only be a good thing.

A worthy (and free) successor to Life is Strange, and an intriguing teaser for the full sequel. Dontnod have improved on most accounts and look to draw in new fans with this prologue.

Fans of the series will play this and find themselves completely relieved of any lingering concerns that they may have had that Max and Chloe are no longer the focus of the series, with Captain Spirit proving the Life is Strange universe - and Dontnod's on mastery over this kind of storytelling - is bigger then just the original protagonists.
