Roads' is a fantastic first episode in what promises to be one of the best episodic series the games industry has ever seen
The net result is that we immediately care about Life is Strange 2. There's no getting-to-know-you phase where we're slowly and steadily introduced to conflict. Nope, it's immediate and it's painful. And it makes both Sean and Daniel immediately-sympathetic characters. Developer Dontnod used this first episode as an opportunity to get right at the themes of Life is Strange 2. There's no time wasted and that's an effective way to get our attention. This is going to be a roadtrip that's worth looking forward to, even if it's born out of some of the most tragic circumstances imaginable.
I found there was plenty of emotion, story, and action to keep me interested in what happens next. I'm not a fan of the episodic nature of the game, as I would rather play it all at once. But I look forward to the rest of it.
This first episode for Life is Strange 2 is one of the biggest surprises of 2018 so far. Dontnod Entertainment not only has improved its saga in a technical way, but the script and characterization for the game presents huge and delicate topics among the American culture.

Life is Strange 2 is easily a worthy successor to the original by both remaining true to the tone of the series and finding refreshing ways to separate itself from it. In the first game, I definitely felt a lot of emotions but in Life is Strange 2, not only do I feel, but I found myself involuntarily emotionally reacting to the events of the game. Dontnod has created something truly special once again and the wait for these remaining episodes will be harder than it has been waiting in the past.
Compared to Life is Strange, this thread of relationship and bond is reminiscent to the friendship between Max and Chloe – albeit very different in terms of specific elements.
With Roads episode, Dontnod once again proved how good they are in creating modern adventures and mixing them with sensational stories and over the top character designs. There are tons of improvements comparing to the previous version and while the ending of the episode could’ve been better, there is still much to enjoy from.

Since its debut, the Life is Strange series has gained an acclaimed reputation for providing an intense and deeply emotional narrative full of dark and heartfelt moments. Life is Strange 2 Episode 1: Roads continues this theme by providing a gripping tale of 2 brothers who must depend on one another for strength.
Life is Strange 2: Episode 1 is all about the story. You shouldn’t really come into this expecting an experience heavy on gameplay, because if you are then it won’t be for you. Episode 1: Roads is a tale of brotherhood and education, with both siblings supporting and growing from each other. This is only the beginning though and based on what’s come so far it’s only going to get a lot better.
Life is Strange 2 is a brave choice for DontNod who had a hit with the first season. They could have done much of the same again here but chose to do something very different with the story of Sean & Daniel. I applaud it. Judging from the premiere episode their story is going be an interesting, hard and emotional one in ways I may not be prepared for and yet, I can't wait for the next episode.
Fans of the original and anyone with empathy for the human condition will line up to check out the sequel and fall in love with an all new cast of characters.
The loyal fans of the first chapter were hoping a sequel about the dramatic story of Max Caufield and Chloe Price but, cause of the different finales available, would have been really hard to build up a new story. So it’s clear that Life is Strange is a saga that wants to tell us how strange and unpredictable can be the consequences of hard choices, through episodes and stories that mix characters and worlds different from each other.

The relationship between the two brothers feels genuine and meaningful, and their uncertain circumstances make for a gripping story
A capable introduction and healthy foundation.
The first chapter of Life is Strange 2 surprises for good. It maintains the essence of the serie and it's capable of contributing its bit with a much more dynamic and natural universe. We have doubts to resolve as the importance of Daniel's power, but the trip of the Diaz brothers is promising.

There are aspects that can definitely use some more fleshing out in future episodes, but the new season feels like it's on its way to potentially achieving the same level of greatness as its predecessor.
It's not going to be known quite yet if Life is Strange is essential, but early signs are that this sequel is going to be as good as season one was.
Life is Strange 2 is off to a good, if a little slow, start.
Returning fans of Life Is Strange will find this sequel refreshing, but not unfamiliar. With its brand new setting and story, Life Is Strange 2 is also a great point of entry for any new players. As a fan of the series, I'm excited to follow the Diaz brothers on their new adventure.
