Impressive graphics and an innovative story mode make for faultless gameplay in the latest instalment of this series, but its hyper-sexualised characters feel out of touch

Dead or Alive 6 maintains the same excellent fighting engine and graphical fluidity of past entries, but it's bogged down by a litany of problems. From the tedious grinding to unlock costumes to the bare-bones online play, it's a disappointing debut on current-gen consoles.

A sequel that seems somewhat embarrassed of the series' sexist past and shallow combat but fails to do anything meaningful about either.

Dead or Alive 6 is a fun fighting game being held back for the sake of additional profit

DOA6 is a fun game, but it's not really a huge leap from part 5, and it still needs more functions & fan-favourite modes to stand out from other fighting games even from last year. As much fun as it is to kick ass as either Hitomi or that schoolgirl with the multiple moves, the absurd Story Mode isn't enough to pique my interest for more than a few weeks.

Although Dead or Alive 6 has nothing new to offer, it's still a very solid and fun fighting game that fully satisfies the hardcore fighting fans.

Team Ninja has added some amazing new mechanisms to the fighting system in Dead or Alive 6. Although there is no tag team in this franchise, but DOA quest fills the hole somehow. Dead or Alive 6 gameplay is very engaging and character design is cool as always. The customes are less revealing, but there's still too much focus on suggestive customes that is not really needed in this level.

Ultimately, I'm not sure if Dead or Alive 6 is the game that fans expected after a seven-year wait, but with its thrilling combat and amazing visuals, it still serves up a fulfilling experience — fanservice and all.

Dead or Alive 6 is an excellent fighting game. The graphics are very beautiful, the fights are dynamic and the new gameplay mechanics are interesting. The available modes are also good, especially the DOA Quest and all the tutorials and challenges. However, DOA 6 has its problems, such as story mode and the little variety of costumes (many only change the color). However, the absence of many basic functionalities in the online at its launch, even if they come later, is something that we can not ignore unfortunately.

Dead or Alive 6 is not a revolutionary entry for the series, but stands as one of the best entries of the series. Its gameplay mechanics and corrections implemented make it an enjoyable game and one with an awesome approach for beginners. Also the few new ideas added to the formula are well received and give it some freshness to this well known experience.

Despite a lot of omissions, this still remains a fun fighting game to play with friends and there is hope that Koei Tecmo will add features in the near future. How much would that cost is a whole other story.

DOA 6 is a capable fighting game that will probably entertain hardcore fans of the series. However, it's hard to imagine it adding to its fanbase as it offers nothing that broadens horizons, and fails to provide the sort of depth expected. DOA 6 can be fun in spurts but doesn't have the staying power of some of the elite fighting titles.

Even though DoA 6 has a messy story presentation, random costume points that forces you to grind, and lacks online modes… it is still fun to play with its varied characters and satisfying fighting styles.

I really want to like this game more. NiCO's a fun new character to add to the mix, and the DOA Quest mode is a lot of fun. But the middling story, and ridiculous costume grind kind of shows how little new content there is to this game. Maybe down the line it'll be a fully fleshed out experience, but at least it's off to a better start than Street Fighter 5.

So was seven years worth waiting for a new entry to Dead or Alive? Yes. Alongside the like of the newest Soul Calibur and the upcoming Mortal Kombat, this is a good time to be a fan of these titles. With both a new story to follow and plenty of other modes to keep yourself and others occupied as you go head to head, Dead or Alive 6 is a great new entry into the series and worth picking up.

Accessible for beginners and at the same time tactical enough for professionals. Dead or Alive shows off its best in Part 6.

Team Ninja has put together a solid entry into the DOA world. While there is nothing truly groundbreaking here, fans of the genre will find plenty here to sink their teeth (or fists) into and won’t be disappointed. I do think a little more originality with the characters would have made a huge difference (especially as a Tekken fan). I found myself questioning why I would play DOA as a character with a Tekken Move-set, surely I would just play Tekken? Is this a day one ‘must have’? probably not, but if any of you feel like punching a CGI opponent, look this one up.
