Building a world is fun, but the quest you have to complete to get the materials you need is as dull as they come
As the song in the film, "everything's not awesome" with this one (camera, screen tearing...), but it still delivers a ton of content and a solid promise of fun if you plan to play it with a kid, In some ways, it's a more open-world-focused offering than other LEGO licensed games, that brings back some ideas lost in LEGO Worlds.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is a throwback to the bad old days of movie tie-ins, this uninspired and dull reskin of LEGO Worlds takes all the good parts of the LEGO games and tosses them in the bin. This is the game that President Business would have designed, full of static environments and boring construction. Everything is far from awesome with The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame.
Overall, The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame serves as a fun romp through different space systems with some familiar characters.
Lego series is not used to be as evolutive as videogames usually are. But with The Lego movie 2: the videogame, TT games changes drastically their way to offer us a title which explores an unseen way of playing in the main Lego series. A twist that reminds their forgotten Lego worlds and that feels to fit perfectly here. Hopefully, an open door to the future of the saga.

There's nothing you've not seen before in The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame -- unless you haven't seen the film yet. This is largely a by-the-numbers LEGO platformer with a variety of open levels in which to find collectibles and solve simple puzzles. The low difficulty makes this perfect for children to play with friends or family, and the sandbox area will let you get a little creative too. It's a safe entry in the series that fans will enjoy, but if you're getting tired of the same old formula, there's not much new to see here.
As someone who was so genuinely moved and inspired by The LEGO Movie 2, it breaks my heart to see that the game was rushed to market and clearly the developers weren’t given the resources to properly respect it, or its audience.

With everything and its narrative and technical problems it becomes quite entertaining and something that can be enjoyed in family from the smallest to the largest. The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame might seem like business as usual, but it's the addition of sandbox bits, the slew of items and gadgets, and the emphasis on exploration and puzzles that make TT's latest LEGO foray a cut above. Everything is (relatively) awesome.
