There is also the regret dictated by the knowledge that this will be the last substantial free expansion and that the Happy Home Paradise DLC will be the only paid content of New Horizons. A real shame, given that such updates have demonstrated the enormous potential for renewal that the gameplay of Animal Crossing offers: a title that we would never want to abandon. However, remaining focused on the present, we can only promote the 2.0 update, which represents the best possible return to the island of our dreams.

What makes Animal Crossing an appealing franchise is that I’m able to meet it on my own terms — even if those terms are the polar opposite of the ones I brought to the game in 2020. New Horizons is no longer my “global living room,” as Bijan Stephen described Fortnite in 2018. It’s more like my secret clubhouse, a space that’s mostly just for me, and maybe the kind of friends that feel comfortable sitting in silence. Coming back to the game this time — alongside all of its new content — means doing things differently, but it’s still just as satisfying.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a stunning new instalment in the Animal Crossing franchise, hindered only by its lack of immediate content, quality of life issues and missing returning characters and features While future updates will give the game long-term playability, for those already sipping vacation juice on their five-star islands, island life feels pretty mundane right now.

Animal Crossing New Horizons  is the best game that could have launched during this pandemic being so family friendly and offering the best brand of distraction you could think of without any violence.

Make no mistake, while this game is definitely casual-friendly and easy to pick up, it is not pure fluff. There is so much depth here. Many players will spend scores upon scores of hours enjoying island life both playing solo and with others online. There aren’t many other games out there providing this level of return on investment!

It doesn’t matter how mundane and tedious the tasks can seem at times, I constantly feel like I’m achieving or working towards something while playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Doesn’t hurt it’s heckin’ adorable either.

Long waited and immediately in love. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a hit not only because of the acute pandemic in 2020, but because it is developed and enhanced with love. However, the game is not necessarily one that you can or should play on the side. It takes a lot of time, if you want to take everything with you. The online functions still need some "love" to finally work reliably, but that is not a problem of this game, but of the infrastructure behind it. From the makeover of the graphics to the soundtrack, everything here is just right and, except for a few small things that will hopefully be fixed or rebuilt in the future, almost perfectly done. Lean back, start your island life and chill through the day into the night and beyond. Animal Crossing: New Horizons and its ecosystem is almost masterful. So plug in the chargers, turn up the sound and go fishing... or catch insects... or look for shooting stars... or just go around in circles!

New Horizons is simply the best Animal Crossing game to date. New features have been expertly developed, the pacing is perfect whilst retaining the magical charm the series has always been based upon. The latest in a growing line of must-own Switch titles.

All in all, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a fantastic game and wonderful new entry to the series. For the most part, it does everything right and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s interested. If you’ve never played Animal Crossing before, keep your expectations in check, it’s not at all a fast paced game. It is extremely casual and even based on real time. So long as you keep your expectations in check, or you’re specifically looking for a casual game, then I most definitely recommend New Horizons. While I have already received my 3 star rating and gotten K.K. Slider to hold a concert, there’s plenty more I haven’t done yet. Fortunately, my more significant complaints weren’t enough to completely sour the experience and I look forward to playing for many more hours. With all that’s been going on in the world lately, it’s obvious that Animal Crossing New Horizons being delayed until March 2020 was the best thing that could’ve happened to it. It was well worth the wait and I’d almost believe it was destined to release when it did.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a vast improvement when comparing to its predecessors; with impeccable detail (like kneecaps!) and beautifully integrated new features, it offers a charming experience. Veterans and newcomers alike can experience a moment of escapism, being whisked away to a faraway island for relaxation.

If you loved the Animal Crossing games of the past, New Horizons will definitely scratch your itch for the series and then some. And if you’ve never played the game before, now is as good a time as any to start. Admittedly, Animal Crossing isn’t for everyone, especially if you’re the type who craves more heart-pumping action. If you want a charming, laid-back game that tickles your creative fancies, however, this latest entry in the Animal Crossing series just might expand your horizons.

After a month of playing New Horizons daily, I’m surprised I’m still not sick of it. The hard part is the first couple days, when you need to learn all the new mechanics that differ from the previous installments, but after that, it’s pretty much smooth sailing.
