The only reason we might not consider Final Fantasy VII Remake a masterpiece is because the play is not over. But it is a work of art. A love letter to the original, written directly on your DualShock 4. Square Enix dresses in Squaresoft, fulfills all its promises and recovers the magic. In short, the remake is just what we expected: a dream come true.

To begin with, it's not an easy-peasy task to remake Final Fantasy 7. But Square Enix have not only done that, but they have also managed to deliver one of the finest RPG experiences of this generation.

So, does Final Fantasy VII Remake live up to the standards set all those years ago? Overall, yes. The world is lively, the script is well written and the combat feels natural. There is still a long way to go in the saga yet, but with these bones it feels like Square Enix has the potential to build something great. The first instalment strikes a great balance of catering to long-time fans while opening up the tale to a newer generation. If you don't like it, there's always the original. This trip to Midgar is well worth taking, even if it feels like the best may be yet to come.

Overall, Final Fantasy VII Remake is a stunning game and absolutely worth your time, so long as you go into it with an open mind and don’t expect it to stubbornly adhere to a nearly 25-year-old tale. I, for one, am rabidly excited to see where future entries will take this story.

It’s not perfect, but Final Fantasy VII REMAKE is the remake I was hoping for.

The remake of Final Fantasy VII isn’t perfect. It has some highly redundant and simply boring side activities that derail the narrative at times, and the visuals are very uneven. But all of these are minor hitches. FFVII Remake is so much more than a mere nostalgia act. It’s probably the most daring game Square Enix has created in years – one that generates great emotions and tons of fun.

Final Fantasy VII Remake fulfills its mission of paying tribute to one of the most important games in video game history. Some changes in the story may detract from its quality, but they do not deny its J-RPG status more than remarkable.

With a game and story this engaging, it’s wild to think that this is just the first of many instalments of Final Fantasy VII Remake. If this first episode is already this good, then we’re already raring to go on the next episode. It’s, then, a matter of when, not if, as Square Enix is already working on it.

This is the kind of remake we should expect when a classic like Final Fantasy VII comes back: ambitious, nonconforming and divisive.

For the most part, Square Enix's ambitious project is an enormous success, with achingly beautiful aesthetics, a mesmerizing story, and snappy combat. Uneven pacing and the repetitive nature of dungeons keep it just shy of perfection, but overall, FF7 Remake is a game to cherish for fans and first-timers.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake is a grand experiment that succeeds on all fronts. It may seem like a blatant cash grab at first, sure. But dig a little deeper into this Northern Crater, and you’ll find a lot to fall in love with.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is an awesome game with a few annoying flaws that stop it from reaching the same heights as its predecessor. Final Fantasy VII was lightning in a bottle, while Final Fantasy VII Remake is just a really good game that wears its skin. The story of the remake series isn't over yet and we hope that Square Enix improves upon the formula for the later entries, but for now, Final Fantasy VII Remake is still well worth your time.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the finest JRPGs in recent memory, setting a new benchmark for visuals and real-time combat in the series while managing to begin retelling one of gaming’s greatest tales in grandiose fashion. It’s just a crying shame we have to twiddle our thumbs and wait for the next chapter.

The scale and detail of this partial remake is at times almost absurd. But this is a game full of beauty, intelligence and nostalgic power.

We would like to be able to divide the evaluation of Final Fantasy 7 Remake into two moments, evaluating the first with all the positivity possible, net also of very diluted chapters and an experience that does not always keep a precise and rapid pace, and the second with so much skepticism towards that narrative smudge that is revealed at the end.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake might be an early contender for Game of the Year 2020 thanks to a wonderful retelling of an iconic game. While it's only the first part in a larger story, there is no denying that the reworked combat system, deep RPG mechanics and iconic characters feel right at home in 2020. The graphics and mucis themselves are art and with new elements in the story there is plenty of love to go around even when your not going after Shinra.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a prime example of a remake done right. It is able to capture the original’s magic while being an accessible and fun title for new and old players to sink their teeth into. Like the Buster Sword, which has inherited the hopes of those who fight, Final Fantasy VII Remake has inherited the hopes of all who await its sequel. It can’t come soon enough.
