Crypt of the Necrodancer Reviews
Imagine playing Dark Souls. You've just saved up enough to purchase a new sword that will give you just enough reach to take out that foe from a distance. Unfortunately, you make a stupid mistake, and you die. But when you come back, that sword is gone, and you have to die fifteen more times before a random number generator decides you can have it back.
Crypt of the Necrodancer for Nintendo Switch combines a great dungeon crawler with some awesome rhythm mechanics. If you haven't played this great indie, now its your chance to try it.

CA roguelike at heart with a rhythm-game soul, Crypt Of The NecroDancer is a sublime experience that's a must-play for fans of the genre(s). Its upbeat, uptempo take on dungeon crawling is infectious, and there's enough content here to last even the savviest of spelunkers for many, many dance-fuelled dives into the depths — if you've never tangoed with the COTN, this fully-featured Switch edition is the perfect way to jump in.
Every moment of Necrodancer is fun and engaging, the music is some of the best original music in any rhythm game, and the entire experience feels very original.
I really hope this title gets a bit more of a story and even more levels, because I already know I am down for lots of necro-dancing hours.
Crypt of the Necrodancer evolves the roguelike genre substantially with an exceedingly simple addition. The rhythm mechanics, combined with some really great music and the roguelike experience, create one of the best titles either rhythm games or roguelikes have to offer.
Considering the combination of the two genres that make up the game, Crypt Of The NecroDancer will certainly not be for everyone. With a great and varied soundtrack, there's at least one choice to suit your tastes. The gratifying gameplay offers a real feeling that it is the player's skill that has persevered over all obstacles and there are plenty of modes to occupy your time. The punishing difficulty may put off newcomers to the genre, but those who enjoy rhythm games or roguelikes may well find a new obsession here... just be ready to die a lot.
Crypt of the Necrodancer is an awesome rhythm game you don't want to pass up if you're into the genre. It solidly blends dungeon crawling with moving in time to the rhythm and the soundtrack is great. Putting in your own soundtrack is a huge plus for me as well as I have a lot of classic NES music I can use to match the retro-style look of the game. If you like rhythm games, definitely pick this one up.
There's never a dull moment: Brace Yourself Games have created an experience where there is a lot to think about in terms of strategy, movement, enemies, traps and maintaining multipliers. However, the constant pull of Baranowsky's compelling soundtrack always keeps things moving, encouraging the player to think on their toes and adapt to the situation at hand.
Crypt of the NecroDancer offers a groovy twist on traditional rouguelikes, and its sick beats make for some very satisfying dungeon crawling. Although the rhythm-based gameplay can make the basics very difficult to grasp, the title does a good job of teaching you everything that you need to know – and it offers more than enough content to keep you foxtrotting back for more.
Crypt of the NecroDancer is a game for people who like good music, cool ideas and being repeatedly punched in the face and told you're rubbish. If you've ever fancied taking on the toughest challenges a game like Dark Souls has to offer, Crypt of the NecroDancer is probably what you're looking for. But now imagine completing it with a dance mat.
Crypt of the NecroDancer is one of the best (and at times, one of the hardest) Roguelikes around.
Crypt of the Necrodancer may not be for everyone, but if the idea of a steamy love-in between two seemingly incompatible genres turns you on, you're gonna love it.
'Crypt of the NecroDancer' more than lives up to its early access promise, providing players with an excellent hybrid of dungeon crawling and rhythm-based gameplay.
Crypt of the Necrodancer offers just about every feature imaginable, and each one is executed absolutely masterfully. It's wholly unique and provides a tension found nowhere else, offering up some rhythm to the roguelike genre just as it started to feel like it was getting stale.
I've been in a bit of a gaming funk recently, but Crypt of the NecroDancer has reminded me how creative, original, and fun video games can be. I've switched it off at 2 a.m. more than once this week, forcing myself to break from a dangerously addictive "one more go" loop as I tried in vain to beat the damn thing.
If you've never played Crypt of the Necrodancer, the Switch release is the definitive version without question.
Unique, challenging, glorious. There's simply so much love poured into Crypt of the NecroDancer, that it's hard not to fall deeply under its spell.
Crypt of the Necrodancer marries rhythm and roguelike in a unique way — It feels accessible, fun, and fairly difficult at any given moment.
Crypt of the NecroDancer is a fast paced dungeon crawler that brilliantly blends rhythm based mechanics into a chimeric roguelike that can entertain you for hours. If you manage to master the music you will be rewarded with engaging combat, a plethora of items to use and an addictive adventure that you can sink your teeth into. However if the beat breaks you down then this game is nothing more than a heartache.
