Shantae and the Seven Sirens experiments with the metroidvania genre within the series. Some traditional elements of the franchise have been streamlined to reach a new audience, but the experience is still entertaining and one of the best installments in the Shantae series.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a compact, attractive, and agreeable adventure, but its muddled design lacks variety, innovation, and vital story engagement. As such, Seven Sirens feels like a sequel on auto-pilot, one that doesn't seize the opportunities offered by its exciting world and lively new cast, ultimately resulting in an entry that's good enough, but had the capacity to be truly magical.

In the end, Shantae and the Seven Sirens overcomes its issues with a variety of fantastic visuals, tight controls, and a new cast of characters that mesh perfectly with the old characters.

Admittedly it is rather a reinvention than a creation, but WayForward focused on the fundamentals of the saga, with the construction of a world in trees as massive as complex.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is an acceptable entry in a series that is known for consistency. However, as the genre continues to evolve, it feels like the simple pleasures of the franchise are becoming less enjoyable. Whenever the titular heroine returns, hopefully she has some new tricks to unleash.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a welcome return of a now-classic platforming series.

Despite some annoyingly prevalent fan-service and clunky fetch quests, Shantae and The Seven Sirens won me over with it’s beautiful realised world, charming characters and thoroughly polished metroidvania design

Seven Sirens may not be the best of the Shantae games, but the characters it introduces, the forms it plays with, the story it tells, and the world it crafts boasts exciting possibilities for the future. WayForward have once again done what they do best and given us a brilliant side-scrolling platformer to remember, whether you’re a Shantae veteran or you’re just hearing about the Half-Genie Heroine for the first time.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is definitely a highlight for the series, building on the jump to HD from its predecessor while finally finding a way to match the traditional dance and transformation mechanics with the speed and ease of use from Pirate’s Curse.

After a long absence, Shantae returns in this Shantae and the Seven Sirens, the new adventure of the most popular half-genius of all time created and developed by Wayforward. Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a game that will not make you have boring moments, on the contrary, it is very fun to play, both for the followers of all your adventures and those who want to start, since you will not feel argumentatively lost despite being the fifth one. Without a doubt a highly recommended title.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens knew how to take advantage of all that the current platforms have to offer, providing beautiful graphics, simple and intuitive gameplay and great performance. However, the feeling I've got from playing is that WayForward preferred to rely more on the popularity and charisma of the character in order to sell his game, instead to dare a little more and deliver something really new. The game in general is not bad, but the impression left is that it has not evolved, something that should be natural for a franchise that reached the fifth title.

All these years after that first Game Boy Color game, the Shantae franchise continues to deliver one of the most delightful experiences in gaming. Shantae and the Seven Sirens is funny, wholesome, and just plain fun. It also offers a killer soundtrack. Some might find that the main quest is a little too easy, and the Monster Card system doesn't offer anything too significant, but these are minor quibbles. Shantae and the Seven Sirens is another great entry in an already strong series.

All in all, Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a well-made and enjoyable addition to the franchise. The gameplay is stronger than ever, and it retains pretty much everything the series was known for, both good and bad. The only thing that makes it difficult to recommend is the low difficulty level, but if you don't mind an easy time, then it will do the job nicely. Wayforward has shown increasing confidence and capabilities with each passing Shantae game, and Seven Sirens gives me a lot of hope for its next one.

It took me a bit under eight hours to finish the game. Though an hour of that was wandering around as I assumed I couldn’t go somewhere I was meant to. I wish it was longer purely because I’d rather play more with my new abilities than start the game over. I will have to as I can’t get 100% on my first save file because late in the game a section gets locked off permanently. That and the intermittent voice acting are the only complaints I have about this game. An option to mark things on the map would have been nice but the world is small enough it’s not hard to remember things. It’s terribly hard to resist the siren call of this game. It’s been hard to finish this review because whenever I go to check something I just keep playing it. I had a really fun time with this game and I give it:

Shantae and the Seven Sirens successfully dances back onto consoles with a gorgeous performance marred by being a bit too light on story for its own good.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens adds one more chapter to a very appreciated series and while the ambition to be the best game to carry the Shantae name is not a full success, this is a very appealing work that combines a marvelous presentation, good level design and a gameplay experience that will please veterans of the series as well as welcome any newcomers.
