Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, despite not shining for stubbornness and technical sector, turns out to be very fun and engaging even for those who have never heard of Captain Tsubasa; for those who spent their childhood with him, they will find in the title an excellent pastime that will allow them to dive lightly into their memories and experience them from another perspective. If you are looking for hyper-realism, go elsewhere, here you will find goalkeepers flying into goal, smashed and deformed balls, flying twins and many other techniques that make Ronaldo and Messi look like beginners when compared to Japanese fourteen year olds. And all of this is very beautiful.

On the other hand in terms of game mechanics we can see several gaps, where one of the is related with the robotic movements of the players on the field. If you are looking for an arcade football game it is possibly one of the most interesting and captivating on the market, but it should be noted that it presents a very different premise than games like FIFA or PES, more focused on the technical and simulation aspect of this sport.

As far as anime games go, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions definitely delivers a great sense of style. While there are some shortcomings, it makes up for them with epic gameplay moments and fun arcade football. Even if it might be too over-the-top for fans of games like FIFA, it will likely be a fun time for fans of the franchise.
Captain Tsubasa does not go out of its way to be more than a game for the fans of the manga. As a fan myself, I enjoyed reliving Oozora Tsubasa's middle school journey and the world cup, but I found the gameplay to be too superficial.

But I am happy to say that Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is not such a game. This title proves that if an Oriental adaptation is taken seriously enough, it can exceed expectations and become a memorable title. If you miss the fiery and destructive shots of the "footballers" players, I suggest you start now and start your journey to become the number one in the world of "Subasa" football!

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is exactly what I wanted from a game based off the classic anime franchise. It looks the part, it’s filled with overdramatic cutscenes and set pieces, and its gameplay doesn’t exactly follow the rules of football to a tee. This is basically the closest to a Super Mario Strikers or one of those older SNK football games you will find in the market nowadays.
