Bandai Namco has always been known for their anime games but this is the first time I have ever played let alone heard of them publishing a sports anime videogame and while Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions may not be perfect it is probably a great stepping stone for them to do more sports anime videogames. Bandai Namco and developer Tamsoft actually makes me wish for them to eventually create a Haikyuu!! or even Kuroko no Basket video game which I’m sure I will love and even more so if they ever do a Slam Dunk video game.

Popular anime series Captain Tsubasa gets adapted to a football RPG video game, and the game keeps fragile balance between football and anime. Mostly.

As a nostalgia trip for old fans of Captain Tsubasa and as an alternative for those who don't like the intricacies of modern sport titles, there is no other choice but this one but newcomers must be aware that this is an action/rpg/melodrama wrapped in a football package not just another sport video game.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions’ secret to success is that it puts the spotlight on its beloved characters and their unique abilities to tell a great sports story. No matter how ridiculous or unbelievable they are, it works as long as it entertains and inspires their audience.

GOOD - Captain Tsubasa is a fun arcade soccer game that perfectly reflects the world of Tsubasa and his friends, reliving the high points of the manga and the animated series. Each game is a unique experience and its story mode offers long hours of fun and replayability. Technically, it is not intended to compete with the most popular soccer games, but it is still a challenging alternative either to play alone or with your friends. If you like the anime, go for it!

Although these problems put the game below its stupendous potential, Captain Tsubasa is a solid game of soccer. All the offered mechanics make the game truly fun, making you want to keep playing it more and more. Deeply recommended for any fan of the series or anyone interested in seeing an explosive soccer game with all the catharsis of dribbling madly over opponents to use a special blow.

Coming to Captain Tsubasa as a fan of football, but knowing nothing of the anime and manga, I had no idea what to expect from this game, but I was more than impressed.

Captain Tsubasa is a great title for the fans of the original anime, and remains totally true to it, but it may not be as fun for those who are new to the series.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is a very primitive arcade soccer game with RPG elements based on the popular manga. Like many other projects based on anime and manga from Bandai Namco, it is made for inexperienced casual players, so there is no deep gameplay or any other interesting mechanics. Although if you are a big fan of Captain Tsubasa manga, you can add a few points from yourself to the final score.

Captain Tsubasa can be fun when you grab some of your mates for an all-out brawl on the pitch if the scoring mechanic wasn't so dumb. It takes away all of the tension of a match. Skip this one unless you're really keen to experience the so-so campaign for yourself.

Adapted anime titles are generally dangerous and risky products; Games that are made with a limited budget and ultimately not very popular. ‌ But I am happy to say that Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is not such a game. This title proves that if an Oriental adaptation is taken seriously enough, it can exceed expectations and become a memorable title. If you miss the fiery and destructive shots of the "footballers" players, ‌ I suggest you start now and start your journey to become the number one in the world of "Subasa" football!

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, despite not shining for stubbornness and technical sector, turns out to be very fun and engaging even for those who have never heard of Captain Tsubasa; for those who spent their childhood with him, they will find in the title an excellent pastime that will allow them to dive lightly into their memories and experience them from another perspective. If you are looking for hyper-realism, go elsewhere, here you will find goalkeepers flying into goal, smashed and deformed balls, flying twins and many other techniques that make Ronaldo and Messi look like beginners when compared to Japanese fourteen year olds. And all of this is very beautiful.

A fantastic arcade experience which may be weighed down with its anime history if you aren’t interested in the source material

Excitingly fresh, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of Champions captures a fun arcade and anime-style, and prioritises a zany, wacky experience. There are a couple of performance issues that could have been improved before release, but nonetheless, these can be overlooked since the core-gameplay mechanics are fun and rewarding to master. If there was ever a time to try out a new football game, then this is it.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is legitimately the best arcade sports title to come out since Rocket League.

As a traditional football game, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions falls flat in many ways. As its own unique interpretation of the sport, though, there's something oddly compelling about the way it gives each goalie an energy bar as if it were some sort of ball-based fighting game (Street Striker II, if you will). Play it with an open mind and as long as you're not against a game that tries something different – as well as plenty of cutscenes – you'll have fun with this one. If you're a fan of the wider Captain Tsubasa franchise, then you're going to love it even more.

For as shallow in terms of providing a bone fide simulation of soccer as Captain Tsubasa is, it more than makes up for it by providing an exciting portrayal of the anime as a game.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions didn’t have to be FIFA, but it at least had to provide a game of football that felt dynamic, fair and fun. It doesn’t do that, unfortunately, and so for most it’s going to be a major disappointment.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will not go down in history as a great football arcade. But the staunch fan will recall nostalgic afternoons with the spin shot or the tiger shot, which are spectacular in the game. Perhaps the mechanics of having to "tire" the goalkeeper will become somewhat repetitive in the long run, but it is a totally enjoyable game.
