Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration of the franchise, no one expected anything from this game, from this group of miscast nobodies. This isn’t the Avengers, they aren’t perfect, but that is kinda their thing. All this time, I wanted more Guardians of the Galaxy in me. Who would have thought? Sometimes, I guess it is the B-Sides that make or break an album.

Fans of the genre would certainly prefer more variety in movement and handling, but the title is rewarded in other ways as the hand is constantly on the trigger and there is a very good soundtrack

Yes, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a fairly average game that reflects years of design tropes. Yet, the game’s commitment to narrative, characters, visual design, and music results in a surprisingly rewarding experience.

Even with lights and shadows in the gameplay, it makes up for its shortcomings with a spectacular and well-executed plot and tremendously endearing and charismatic characters.

The main quality that a Guardians of the Galaxy game absolutely needs is the charm to win over those who may be fatigued by the contemporary superhero landscape. Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy does that, and then some. It has a gripping story that’s best experienced first-hand, brilliant characterization, and the rebellious personality that these characters deserve. It’s a sci-fi third-person shooter operating at its peak, and you’ll be gripped at every step of the way.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy proved to be a pleasant surprise and one of the best superhero titles around, with a compelling story and excellent characterization. There are still areas for improvement, especially in the gameplay that feels too familiar, but the Marvel license is definitely in good hands.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is an unexpected contender for Game of the Year. Most definitely an exciting addition to the 2021 line-up and one of the best action-adventure platformers I've had the pleasure of experiencing in quite some time.

I’ll say it again: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best games of the year. It will absolutely be in Game of the Year conversations. Eidos did fantastic in executing a fun and engaging combat system. The game also encourages multiple playthroughs with different dialogue branches and unlockable costumes and collectibles. Aside from technical setbacks, the game is a thrilling, goofy, and heart-warming space epic. Even if you’re an MCU fan and love James Gunn’s versions of these characters, playing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy felt like I was meeting them for the first time all over again. I sincerely hope this won’t be the last time we see them.

Guardians of the Galaxy knows how to pick up the baton from games like Marvel Spider-man or Batman Arkham and take advantage of all the lore of the comics. And in that the Cosmic Marvel is unparalleled. Richard Ryder, Yondu, Darkhawk, Mantis, Cosmo, Thanos or The Collector are just some of the names that will appear as simple references or as essential NPCs in the plot and the truth is that they greatly enrich the experience of the staunch fan of these characters. Eidos Montreal has emerged victorious from a challenge that had a lot against it beforehand, thanks to a practical design and no external complications. Square-Enix should take note of the way forward for future projects.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a surprisingly strong turn for a game adapted from a Marvel property. It focuses on the team dynamic to fill out its gameplay and relies on strong writing to carry its linear campaign while boasting nuanced performances and a soundtrack that would make James Gunn blush.

Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have managed the license balancing act that few would have expected: From the flop of 2020 to the hot GotY candidate in 2021. With a heavy dose of wit, charm and plenty of 80s vibes, Eidos Montreal has shown a flair for the brand and fully catapulted Guardians into our hearts. After last year's Avengers fiasco, the single-player adventure is an absolute surprise hit and the necessary redemption for battered Marvel souls. Thanks to the glorious music selection, the lovable characters and the thrillingly staged story around five likeable messes, Eidos Montreal's licensed implementation has become an absolutely well-rounded affair. The relationships between the protagonists seem tangible and real, the group dynamics are worked out in detail and the many comic book references make you want more. It's a real pleasure to watch your pals tease, argue or get along and see how they keep growing together as a team. The shallow and rather rudimentary battles lack depth and overview, but are still very motivating. Even minor technical glitches can't detract from the game's great fun.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy offers a very different kind of team-based combat and although sometimes it may feel a little too easy, learning how the combinations of the whole team’s powers work will bring you a lot of joy. The story doesn’t feel anything new in this kind of cosmic adventure narrative but by focusing on likeable characters and giving them great dialogues and enough time to thrive, the developers have managed to elevate their story in the best possible way.

Despite being announced in the shadow of the failure of the Avengers game, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy hits every point where the title developed by Crystal Dynamics went wrong. The choice to make a single player , totally linear and complete game at its launch, without any future DLC, is justified with a great plot focused on Star Lord, but that still explores the history of the other members of the team and a fun gameplay based on leadership. The title is full of fan service, with references to other characters and Marvel sagas, and has one of the best soundtracks in the world of electronic games. Without a doubt, an experience that brings out the best of the most misfit group of heroes in this galaxy.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is overwhelmingly good. Eidos Montreal managed to create an authentic and incredible Marvel game that everyone will love. An epic original story, beautiful visuals, fantastic dialogue and an even better soundtrack. I used it in the introduction, but I’m using Star-Lords quote again: ”You Said It Yourself, B****. We’re The Guardians Of The Galaxy” A must-play adventure. I take a deep bow for the developers as this is truly something special.
