While the value proposition is up for debate, it’s hard to argue against the fact that Ghost of Tsushima has evolved beyond anything we had expected. From the post-launch patches that included improvements based on community feedback, to the full-fledged online co-op mode that was released at no extra cost and with free updates, Ghost of Tsushima is a prime example of how video games should be launched and supported after release. It launched in an already superb state and now it is even better and bolder.

Ultimately, Iki Island is a solid eight-to-ten hour campaign completing most of its extras, and the upgrades on PlayStation 5 are tangible enough that it feels like the release of Director's Cut was more than justified. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is the best iteration of an already amazing title, and should be a must-own for any PS5 user who hasn't played through the game once before. For anyone who has already done so, it's a bit of a tougher sell, though the upgrades and expanded narrative of the DLC do offer enough to make it a strong consideration for another go on PlayStation 5.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is the perfect opportunity for new players who have not yet had contact with the game. Jin's adventure in the new graphic design along with the possibilities of DualSense is something unforgettable.

Whether it'll be worth it to you depends on how much you'd need to end up spending and how much you enjoyed your first time in Tsushima. If you've never played it, though, Director's Cut is the obvious choice whether you're on PS4 or PS5. It might be the filler of games, but it's some of the best filler I've ever played. Slap that on the back of the box, Sucker Punch.

If for whatever reason you didn’t previously have Ghost of Tsushima, then this is the time to rectify that shameful oversight. If you’re already a legendary ghost, then the chance to visit Iki Island is a worthwhile one – and even moreso if you’ve got a PS5 and a decent TV that can show off the enhanced visuals and features too.

Few games come close to the full package that is Ghost of Tsushima. From its story, gameplay, presentation, and developer dedication, it is a game that seemingly shouldn’t exist in today’s gaming climate – one rife with buggy launches, dishonest presentations, and microtransaction-heavy “features”. It is a breath of fresh air amongst games today and a proper showing by Sony that further strengthens its exclusive catalogue. It’s also a masterclass in technical prowess and display, showcasing Sucker Punch’s mastery and ability to deliver fantastic experiences across multiple generations of hardware.

Iki Island is a visual treat whose story adds layers to Jin’s character that feel so essential, it makes us wonder how they were ever cut from the original game. Completing every objective on the island will take some time, but if you’re only interested in the main story, your time on Iki may be briefer than expected.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is not just an upgraded version of Sucker Punch's excellent game, but it also brings to the table some very welcome additions. Apart from the technical improvements, it stands out for the new, very interesting main story expansion that I think every fan of the base game should experience.

If you've experienced the game already, then your mileage may vary, as there's probably around six hours of new content in the expansion. Although there’s something to be said for exploring Tsushima once again with the PS5’s technical prowess elevating the visuals, and the controller's technology adding some subtle, but nonetheless enjoyable, elements to the whole experience.

Although the pace of the new plot is a bit hasty, it is still an unforgettable experience for the players who clear the ontomatic process.

Great expansion for a great game. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is even better on PlayStation 5, even though sometimes it can't fully hide its PlayStation 4 origins.

And it's that connectivity that really feels at the core of this DLC. Everything you're doing is building your own connection to Jin, helping to flesh out the human side of the inimitable Ghost of Tsushima through his family, his friends, and new-found (if reluctant) allies. Sucker Punch's ability to weave beautiful narratives that will, ahem, sucker punch you right in the feels is more in the spotlight here than ever, and it's an utter success.
