Halo Infinite had huge expectations to live up to. 343 Studios had yet to nail the entire Halo package and its much-publicised delay must have had the Xbox executive team worried. I am pleased to say that in all areas (bar the missing co-op) that Infinite has met and, in some cases, exceeded those expectations.

It feels good to find Master Chief in an episode that lives up to expectations with a deeper story and a universe bigger than ever. Above all, as a shooter, Halo Infinite is expertly executed and pushes the boundaries of the series in the right direction. In my opinion, the game has a lot to offer fans of the series and hopefully it will open new door to spawn a whole new generation of Halo fans.

If it sounds like I am hard on Halo Infinite’s campaign, it is because I am. I expected a lot from 343 Industries and Microsoft, and I am left feeling somewhat disappointed. With the multiplayer being spun off into a free-to-play standalone with its own monetization, we are now paying full price for this campaign, and it doesn’t live up to the price tag. Yes, the actual gameplay is superb, but that alone cannot carry an entire campaign.

The entire game feels like Halo’s most popular franchise level ‘Halo’, the freedom, creativity in combat and impressive art direction makes Halo Infinite not only the best Halo game to date but also the best shooter ever created.

Ultimately, Halo Infinite's multiplayer is a victim to its progression system, that stands in the way of the excellently refined core of the game. It's certain to be a mainstay for years as the developers work out the kinks and factor in the fan feedback. Their work still paid off though, because the gameplay of Halo Infinite is the best of any multiplayer shooter from recent memory. It's just sullied by the egregious implementation of artificial hurdles to that gameplay, which knocks a point or two off the score. Without this abhorrent progression? Halo Infinite would be one of the best multiplayer shooters of the last 10 years.

Halo is why people got an Xbox and Halo Infinite shows us why that is true today but now you can play it on PC as well.

When all is said and done, Halo: Infinite delivers an amazing entry into the franchise. While it doesn’t manage to take the top spot on my personal list of favorite Halo games(Remember Reach!) it is easily in my top three. And with Xbox looking to keep players engaged with Xbox Game Pass I can only imagine that we will be getting more stories with the Chief as he continues his fight against the Banished. If 343 Industries can keep what comes next to the same level of fun and polish they have established here, I will gladly pick up my trusty Battle Rifle anytime they have a new mission for me.

Halo Infinite isn’t a perfect game. It has some rough edges, and you can absolutely feel at times where compromises had to be made to get it out this holiday season. Normally I’d want a game to take its time and release when it’s ready, but this is a case where I’m glad the developers didn’t do so. A year from now, Halo Infinite may be even better than it is today, but right now, it’s still one of the best games of 2021. After many years of trying to find its footing, Halo is back on solid ground. While in the long term, a series of this age will need to try innovating again, after years of struggling to find the right feel, letting players come home to a game that simply feels like a modern version of what they love was the right choice.

Halo Infinite is unmissable, whether you are a long-lasting fan of the series or a newcomer, this game is both a fitting continuation of the saga and an excellent starting point for one of gaming’s finest franchises.

Overall, this is the best day one first-person shooter of the year and will only evolve and improve more as the developers tweak it. You’ve an awesome open world to explore for the first time in the franchise and a top-level multiplayer suite to battle endlessly through during the cold winter months. Well done Xbox.

The Halo Infinite campaign has numerous flaws and an obvious air to being incomplete, however, despite all odds, 343 Industries delivers a serious shooter that doesn't have to rely on its brand pedigree. The groundwork of a legendary shooter is definitely present in this campaign, with hordes of unique classes of enemies, a wide arsenal of weaponry, grand vistas of the Zeta Ring, and an engaging story.

Does Halo Infinite reignite that Halo passion? For the most part, yes! I will admit that there is a lot of frustration regarding the decisions in multiplayer and a rather static open world. However, the core gameplay experiences keep Halo Infinite fresh and one of the best first person shooters in years. Halo is back!

Halo Infinite is a good title, with a fairly correct story that opens a bridge of possibilities to a saga that will be infinite. The gameplay (and especially gunplay) is so much fun that it is what many other shooters should aspire to, and the mechanics have been innovated with very good taste.

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is one of the most fun gaming experiences that I have had in 2021, and I’m not even good at the game as I’ve barely played online Halo over the years.

The events of Halo Infinite certainly round out the key story elements of Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians for me. I loved the emotional hits that Master Chief takes, which has been a mainstay from across the series. I felt the game dragged out in certain points and ammo was a pain like previous Halo games, but the open world exploration was a great addition to the series.

To me, 343 Industries have succeeded with Halo Infinite in two of the most important gaming aspects, its brilliant gameplay and story. Graphically it may be underwhelming, on the Series S at least, and it could have at least done with six months more of polish, but this was easily the most fun I’ve had with a Halo game since Halo 3. The open-world setting of Zeta Halo breathes new life into the series and gives players the freedom to explore with plenty of opportunities to fight the Banished in whatever way you wish, whether on foot, via ground vehicles or by air. This is a major return to form for the Halo series and it’s great to see Master Chief back to finish the fight!

It's hard to deny the missteps and missing launch-day features, but it's harder to deny how thoroughly engaging Halo Infinite feels.

With Halo Infinite, 343 Industries is looking to innovate on an established franchise. Yet despite the new additions, such as the semi-open world, the core game design still feels a bit dated and it seems that the developers didn't know how to actually handle the new features. The graphics are better, but have plenty of problems. Even though Master Chief is more agile, you still have to play passively. The world is unimaginative and the quests feel monotonous. Fortunately though, what Halo did right before, it does right now, and the varied enemies, along with the huge arsenal of weapons, will definitely keep existing fans entertained. For everyone else, however, this title is more of an above-average game that tries to push its boundaries but still fails to break away from slightly outdated gameplay mechanics.
