A classic formula polished to the extreme, with incomparable visual beauty, and worldbuilding of the highest level. Just a few rough edges and mechanical inconsistencies keep Horizon Forbidden West from being a masterpiece.

Horizon Forbidden West currently ranks as the best game available on PS5 and as one of the best on PS4. It has a clear and concise story that attracts you from the first moment and all this seasoned with careful, addictive gameplay full of variants with which you can enjoy each combat, each step down the side of a mountain or each line of dialogue thanks to graphic care and animations. It is a must if you liked Horizon Zero Dawn, and a game that can be enjoyed separately, but for which it is highly recommended to have finished the first game.

Horizon Forbidden West improves on its predecessor in nearly every way, offering a stunning follow-up to an already excellent title which shows just how much a game can improve through refinement. Fans of the original will feel immediately comfortable, but they’ll find a far better adventure waiting for them. If you disliked the original game, Forbidden West won’t change your mind, but this is a must-own for everyone else.

While it doesn't reinvent the open world or stray too far from its predecessor, Horizon Forbidden West is a worthwhile endeavor for those in the mood for more open world adventures, with surprising nuance and complexity for those who make the trip.

Horizon: Forbidden West is a remarkable game that blew me away with its excellent storytelling, deep and engaging gameplay, and breath-taking visuals. I found myself eagerly anticipating every twist and turn of the story, the set pieces left me in awe of just how fun and varied combat is, whilst exploring the world and uncovering all of its secrets and side quests was a real treat. And did I mention it looks ridiculously stunning? It really has it all. The first game is one of my favourite PlayStation titles of all time, but Horizon: Forbidden West exceeds it in almost every way. Some minor graphical issues here and there do stop the game from feeling ‘perfect’, but they don’t stop Horizon: Forbidden West from being a masterpiece of game design.

The more meaningful side quests as well as the new and returning weapons and enemies make for one excellent game. Yes, there are some technical aspects which could still be polished up, but overall Forbidden West is a fantastic experience.

Horizon Forbidden West is an exceptional game. Its greatest pitfall is that the combat isn’t always great and while it's immensely satisfying most of the time, those moments of frustration cannot be ignored. For those looking to get lost in exploring a beautiful landscape, this may be the greatest open-world ever made. The writing is world-class, both on a personal character level and in its grander sci-fi scope. Where the first game washed over me as just another open-world game, Horizon Forbidden West enraptured me and took me for a wild ride I did not expect at all.

Horizon Forbidden West picks up the story after the events of Horizon New Dawn. Aloy has to save the world and it's not that easy. Especially when she has to deal with a new threat. Fortunately, you as a player are there to guide her and provide her with new skills. The world in Forbidden West is huge and there is a lot to experience, although some activities feel a bit sparse. In addition to a large open world, there is also enough time to enjoy the environment in amazement to also use Photo Mode. Horizon Forbidden West already feels better than its predecessor.

Horizon Forbidden West is a sequel that mostly relies on its great roots to hold itself up. It's bigger, has an enjoyable main story and thrilling combat, and adds a few new branches - brittle as they may be. It looks and sounds great, and some minor technical issues aside, is an adventure that's worth experiencing.

Horizon: Forbidden West offers are beautiful - and dangerous - world with so much to do. I had a lot of fun exploring it. Glitches and bugs however regularly stopped me from completely enjoying the game.

This is one of those sequels where the developers have really upped their game in just about every way, and even though I’ve now finished the main campaign, I still can’t wait to play more of it!

While the difficult combat might not be for everyone, fans of open-world RPGs will fall in love with both the world and the story of Horizon Forbidden West. Despite some middling side-content, Horizon still holds its own against every other open-world game on the market.

That Horizon: Forbidden West takes the best parts from the acclaimed Horizon: Zero Dawn and makes them even better was expected. Somewhat more unexpectedly, even the weaker links of one are greatly improved, which together with new elements and sources of inspiration leads to an excellent adventure that makes both the predecessor and most other games in the genre fade.

Horizon Forbidden West presented a huge vast world and a good story, it is one of the best Sony games in terms of visuals. Although there were some repetition, especially in the side tasks and activities, in addition to some technical problems, it was one of the games that we encourage to try because of its wonderful aspects.

Horizon Forbidden West will leave you spellbound when you notice the ease with which it juggles the machinations of its technical wizardry and the pure unadulterated heart of the story. Guerrilla Games demonstrates an obsession with detail that borders on downright insanity and punches up. Really hard. Very much like a David versus Goliath. With every part of its franchise soul becoming bigger, better and badder, Horizon Forbidden West takes not just a small step, but a giant leap in the evolution of open-world video games. This is not only a GOTY contender for 2022 – it is going to break down the doors on the Hall of Eternal Fame.
