Mario Strikers Battle League is a lot of fun, but unless you commit to online play, it’s here for a good — but brief — time.

Mario Strikers: Battle League is a fun time that is easy enough for anybody to pickup and play but still without depth to mean it should keep an audience engaged for a long period of time. It's a little lacking in the single player department, but it's doing some interesting things in the online space to make up for it.

After 15 years of absence, Mario Strikers: Battle League returns with a competitive approach. The best part is its multiplayer mode and deep mechanics, which make every match a challenge. It's a shame that its content is sparse at launch day but it's a very fun and frantic game that can improve with future updates.

Mario Strikers: Battle League tears up the rule book of what you might expect in a traditional soccer experience and injects personality, outlandish action and mischievous tactics into the gameplay - though it could have used more content.

Although Mario Strikers Battle League Football does come with some flaws, in the end it's a surprisingly fun multiplayer sports title. Gameplay is easy to learn, but hard to master with some nice deeper mechanics. Content wise the game falls short with only a few single player options to play through. The multiplayer aspect, on the other hand, works like a charm and delivers some classic chaotic Nintendo multiplayer fun. Mario Strikers succeeds in bringing that nostalgic fun to the Nintendo Switch.

Although Mario Strikers Battle League performs poorly in terms of low playable character count and single player content, it is a great party game with great gameplay and local multiplayer support for up to 8 players.

Having a lackluster character roster, as well as the little variety in terms of modes, does hurt Mario Strikers: Battle League’s. However, gameplay does save the day here. While simplistic, its zany, yet fun gameplay loop makes things interesting.

Despite the shallow offline single player mode, overall I’m enjoying my time with the game on my own, especially when I play online. However, I’m finding that the deeper, more complex mechanics are a definite barrier when it comes to casual play, making it hard to recommend this as a “bring-all-your-friends” party game, though by all means it feels like one on the surface.

A fun arcade soccer game with friends, entertaining in online multiplayer and normal to play against the machine. Apart from its lack of content, it has enough tools to create different styles of play, strategy and enough skill to make perfect plays. Every goal counts.

Funny kick for in between, but due to the meager circumference it runs out of breath too quickly.

Mario Strikers Battle League is a game faithful to the term 'easy to learn, hard to master'. Everyone can enjoy it without any concerns due to its simple controls as well as the exciting visuals are easy on the eyes. However, the lack of game modes and characters can make the game easily tiresome for those who don't fancy about sports that much.

The best and most balanced Mario Strikers title yet, undercut by limited modes and a lacklustre sense of progression.

Mario Strikers: Battle League has all the makings of a great sports game, but there's not much there right now.

Mario Strikers Battle League is a worthy entry in an excellent series that takes the best aspects of the previous games and hones them to multiplayer perfection. It is more difficult to recommend for solo players – although the core game is still fun – but hopefully the online mode will enable everyone to play the game at its best. Check back soon for the definitive verdict once we've had a chance to give it a try

As it is, Mario Strikers: Battle League isn't the World Cup of Nintendo soccer that fans were probably hoping for. Instead, it's merely an average Sunday game that's playing on Univision: good for a few hours of entertainment and little more than that.

Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is another competitive sporting spin-off for the moustachioed plumber that’s mechanical nuance is only marred by its lack of truly compelling content.

Overall, Mario: Strikers Battle League is a good game that needs more to do. It may be a much better game a year from now, but right now, it is noticeably lacking content.

Mario Strikers: Battle League is a fun and colorful game that lacks some of the depth players might expect, and strays pretty far from soccer.

Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is a thrilling take on the football genre, with more end-to-end thrills than FIFA could ever hope for, as well as the chaotic energy that the classic Super Mario items provide. But a stingy offering of single-player modes mean that this is only really worthwhile for those wanting to dive into online multiplayer.
