In the end, Gotham Knights is, like the studio’s earlier contribution to the saga, Batman: Arkham Origins, a decent game haunted by the notion of not being the main event.

Despite Gotham Knight's cooperative multiplayer and many customization options, vigilante justice can't save this open-world action-RPG from mediocrity.

Gotham Knights has a few interesting things going on. It’s just not enough to elevate it to the level of previous Batman games. Now, sure, technically speaking, this isn’t truly a Batman game, as the focus is on his legacy of proteges. But the Arkham series of games has elevated expectations quite high, and while Gotham Knights didn’t hit them, it has moments where it does feel like something interesting is brewing. With more to do in the city, and an easier method of switching characters, perhaps this could be the start of something greater.

Take your pick of the four aforementioned proteges listed above, team up with another player, and take-down syndicates and streetcorner thugs using combat inspired by the popular Batman Arkham series of games.

I am not going to try to tell you that Gotham Knights is a pristine superhero game devoid of issues, for there are many, but I really enjoyed playing it. In fact, I haven’t stopped playing it yet. Its story is fantastic, and the core gameplay loop is solid, whether you’re talking about a story-driven solo mission or yet another nightly patrol with some mates. It is not, however, a game that deserves the label of “next-gen only”, as its performance is outshined by many other PS4 and Xbox One games.

Overall, Gotham Knights is, a boring, irritating game and a waste of potential that does little to the bat-family.

Gotham Knights is a worthy heir to the Arkham saga, with a new approach and a starting point of a new universe. Good gameplay and a great story that takes place in the biggest Gotham yet, which is full of activities but it feels empty.

Gotham Knights seem worthwhile at first but it sooner or later makes you lose the passion.

In many ways, Gotham Knights is a game that does everything differently from the previous Arkham games, and maybe this is the reason why so many people seem disappointed.

The RPG elements doesn’t quite mix with the more straight-forward nature of superheroic adventures in a satisfying way and although the story starts with a great and shocking moment, it can’t always get the tone right and fumbles some of the important twists and dramatic beats. Gotham Knights had the potential to be a very different and even revolutionary title in the sea of superhero games but in the end it is just a mildly entertaining one.

The experience of playing Gotham Knights is dull. mediocre plot, hollow open world, equipment system in a mess, the fun of multiplayer mode is also limited. Although this game did not give me any strong negative feedback during playing, I still do not recommend players to buy it. After all, you can have many better choices at the end of this year.

WB Games Montréal clearly bit off more than it could chew here, resulting in a bloated mess that fails on a technical level. Running on Unreal Engine 4, Gotham Knights on PC can look visually appealing at times, but constant frame drops and high-end PC requirements essentially doom it. At the end of the day, the game itself is tedious to play, and because of that, it's hard to see players waiting around for months for the performance issues to be resolved.

With the many controversies it has faced recently, and with the discontent of and the loss of enthusiasm of some people because of its recent performances. The game managed to prove the opposite and presented an amazing world and a wonderful story with characters and dialogues that could not have been presented better than that, and its conclusion would have been amazing were it not for its major technical problems and poor artificial intelligence. It is an experience that must try!

Gotham Knights is a game with a lot of problems, but it's still enjoyable at times, especially for fans of the superhero genre and the Batman universe. However, ultimately it doesn't manage to reach Rocksteady's excellent Arkham games.

As the latest burger off the production line, Gotham Knights is fine. It ticks all the boxes, name-drops all the right characters, has the right voice actors, and is a big, expensive project that looks and plays like it should. At the end of the day, though, you’re still eating a greasy burger with no nutritional value whatsoever. While it’s fine to say “yeah but sometimes that’s fun,” there is a point where we need to acknowledge that this is all some people eat. That’s not healthy and I, for one, am sick of superhero nonsense being such a vacuum of talent producing such mindless output, when the games industry (and Hollywood) could be doing so much more.

If you’re a fan of open world superhero games or a fan of the Batman franchise there are certainly a number of individual aspects of Gotham Knights you’ll be able to enjoy. The combat feels nice, the world is there to explore and there are some great character moments and writing throughout the whole game. Unfortunately it falls short as an overall great package due to an RPG loot system that feels like it was forced in and largely unnecessary, and pacing issues with the mission design and boss encounters. When the game focuses on the world and story it’s great, I just wish the game overall was closer to what we got with Arkham Origins rather than the push towards bloated modern grinds that have been injected into far too many games these days.
