Hades II Reviews
Hades II is exactly what you'd expect from a much-refined sequel and even though it's been 5 years since the original, you'll be immediately drawn back into the iconic action-packed gameplay, especially thanks to its unique combat foundations.
I’m going to keep it simple here and say you need to play Hades 2. It is that good. It is worth it. You will regret it if you don’t.
Being a sequel comes with a lot of baggage and expectations, and often they fail to impress. That’s not the case with Hades II, though. Not only does this adventure have a slightly better overall balance, but it also matches it with challenging and fun combat, an amazing cast of characters, a spectacular and twisting plot, and an even better protagonist than the first game. Put simply, Supergiant Games outdid themselves, and if you at all enjoyed the first game, you have to play Hades II. Death to Chronos!
Not only has Supergiant Games made another great roguelike, but they have also made one of the best action games of the decade. It’s not often that every part of a story—like the plot, the design, the sound, and the pacing—feels like it had been intended and earned. If the first Hades was a breakout success, Hades II is the moment the studio ascends to Olympus.
This year has been stellar when it comes to great games, and Hades II still manages to stand out from the pack for me. It’s an absolutely fantastic follow-up to the original and one that shouldn’t be missed.
"A perfect sequel to a perfect first installment" Hades II embodies Supergiant Games' vision at the height of its creative maturity. It doesn't simply replicate the success of the first game; it builds upon and expands it on every level—from narrative to mechanics and even music. By combining masterful roguelike structure with sophisticated dramatic writing, the game makes every playthrough a step into an epic and unforgettable journey. Whether you're a longtime fan of the first game or a newcomer to this world, you'll find yourself captivated by its beauty and legendary weight.

Hades II takes the addictive roguelite formula of the first game, adds a few spices with minimal modifications, and delivers an improved execution. So mote it be.
Hades 2 is a fully worthy sequel to the original Hades, perfectly combining gameplay and story into an intense, fun, and fully engaging narrative that will continuously make you say, "just one more run!" This game was made with a lot of love and passion for gaming as a whole and perfectly shows the industry how to make a truly great game with a compelling story.
What kind of year are we having? After such incredible games as Clair Obscur, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Donkey Kong Bananza, and many others, a new contender for Game of the Year has emerged. Hades 2 represents everything a sequel should be: a story that's as solid as ever, masterful gameplay, enormous replay value, and lots of variety. Of course, the foundations for this masterpiece were already in place, but it could have been a double-edged sword. Instead, Supergiant Games surprises us with a roguelite that will leave a lasting impression. 2025, you're starting to hurt our wallets!

Ultimately, despite its repetitive nature, Hades 2 is simply more Hades, and that’s not a bad thing. The story is compelling, the characters, dialogue, and line delivery are fantastic, the combat is more thoughtful than the first game, and there’s twice as much level and boss variety compared to Hades 1. It’s an excellent sequel, even if being more of the same didn’t always strike the right chords for me.
Hades II is the perfect sequel. It retains all the best elements of the original and improves on them, while adding more content, storyline, and expanding the entire universe. Once you get caught up in the loop of trying to defeat Chronos, it's very hard to break free. However, I hope that Supergiant Games will end this wonderful series in the form of a complete trilogy, because these stories definitely deserve it.

Hades II is a benchmark for the genre. The story, characters, writing, and art direction exceed the expectations set by the original Hades. Further, the new gameplay mechanics and the addition of a second area make for a game that can keep you occupied for dozens of hours without ever getting boring. While the ending is extremely disappointing, I can confidently recommend Hades II to everyone, regardless of whether you've played other entries in the genre or not.
Hades II is a stunning roguelike package. The game takes everything that worked in Hades and dials it up to eleven. Even after dozens of hours, it continues to surprise and delight in equal measure. This is a thrilling, endlessly replayable sequel that cements Supergiant’s reputation as one of the best studios in the industry, delivering one of 2025’s defining games.
Hades II is an improvement not only of the previous game, but an improvement of the entire roguelike genre. The story and gameplay elements flow so naturally, that it feels much more than just a rouguelike experience.
Hades 2 was supposed to be a game that I am already familiar with — something I already knew inside out. But eventually, it surprised me with so many new elements that it felt like much more than I ever expected. Practically every part of the game shines in my eyes. Truly awesome title.

In all, Hades 2 is truly an impressive feat in gaming. It delivers on nearly every level, from gameplay to voice acting to visuals and beyond. I was already impressed in Early Access, but the final polish that Supergiant put on the game for its full launch really adds a whole other level to Hades 2. In the 1.0 release, new features like the Journal, polished artwork for character portraits and the Arcana, and more, make an already great game feel as close to perfect as I’ve experienced in recent memory.
By all accounts, what you get in gameplay and story in Hades 2 is exceptional. With a new and swift hero at the helm, great weapons to play with, new systems, and a much larger world to uncover, Hades 2 is a must-play.
Hades II is everything I wanted and more, expanding upon nearly everything in the original and making it bigger, better, and stronger. Supergiant delivers a title that will satisfy existing fans and capture new ones, creating a game that is far more than just a sequel.
