Again, though, humor is subjective. It’s entirely possible you won’t jive with what this game is doing, as basically every traditional marker of a game here is subservient to humor. If you don’t find Thank Goodness You’re Here funny, you’ll probably get very little out of it. And I’m sorry, but that’s your loss. For those who do share its sense of humor, and who appreciate its cartoon style and absurd parody of village life, Thank Goodness You’re Here is bound to impress. It’s one of the most purely enjoyable games I’ve ever played, and I’m thinking it will be as fun to revisit again and again as the great comedies it echoes.
Thank Goodness You're Here is a succinct, spectacularly funny adventure through an absolutely atrocious fictional Northern England town, packing an obscene number of gags into a three-hour runtime and pulling off some incredible feats of no-frills game design. It's wonderfully-presented, unabashedly weird and extremely Yorkshire.
For better and for worse, Thank Goodness You’re Here! is unlike anything I’ve played recently: a short and mechanically lacking “slapformer” which makes up for its imperfections thanks to a bevy of hilarious jokes and zany artistic sensibilities. The final result is a game that is both more than the sum of its parts and a loving tribute to the archetypal northern English industrial town.
Thank Goodness You're Here is like a season of a British cartoon, a series of linked episodes in which you're constantly being pelted with jokes. And the game looks great, and the humor in it is good, and the characters are funny, and there are a lot of interactive moments as well. It's a unique project, made with great love for English culture, and a great way to cheer yourself up - whether you understand British humor or not.
Spectacularly succinct and ferociously funny, the only downside to Thank Goodness You're Here! is that there isn't more of it.
Thank Goodness You're Here! is a game that's quintessentially British, inviting players to explore a Northern English town and rub shoulders with its bizarre locals. It's weird, it's clever, and it's utterly surreal at times, but it's always entertaining. It's just a shame that your visit is over so soon, but there's perhaps reason to return to it a time or two. In any case, it's an absolute delight while it lasts.
A truly rare example of pure absurd comedy in the video game industry.

From its innuendos when milking cows, to the way the citizens interact with one another, it makes it a truly enjoyable and memorable experience. While at times the repetition of walking back and forth can set in, the game rarely drops the ball of making a joke. Give this game to your dad, neighbor or friend and watch them carefully explore what the town has to offer. I can guarantee their puzzlement will surely turn to laughter before they exclaim Thank Goodness for this Game.
Playing Thank Goodness You're Here! made me laugh so many times throughout its oddball adventure that I easily recommend playing it.
In times where there is a valid argument for the erosion of adult comedy, Thank Goodness You’re Here! delivers one of the funniest videogames I have played in years. Whilst it teeters there, it never oversteps the ‘oof’ mark. With fun and simplistic gameplay that never gets in the way of the short story of a trip to Barnsworth, this is the best of British humour. If the town was a real place, I’d be on the next coach – but I’d probably take packed lunch and avoid the fish suppers (one for you to discover). Thank Goodness this is now on Xbox.
Overall, Thank Goodness You’re Here is an absolute gem of a game full of humanity and fun. Coal Supper really have done an excellent job capturing the heart and soul of the community of Barnsworth, and the game took me nostalgically back to TV I watched when I was young, whilst also making me laugh out loud from the start to the end. If you want something extremely silly, absurd and exceptionally well made to spend a couple of hours with, then you should definitely check it out.

Simply put, Coal Supper's Adventure Comedy Slapformer is always funny and a delight. Thank Goodness You're Here feels like gaming's equivalent to comical cinema. Even though the game's gameplay can be too simple or lacking at times, the constant laughs and art mending both Adult Swim and Cartoon Network successfully carry the game's short 2-3 hour experience and ultimately do not disappoint. If you’re looking to have a laugh from your video game experience and don’t want to play another 40-hour video game, Coal Supper’s latest title is for you.
