Until Dawn (2024) Reviews
Until Dawn from developer Ballistic Moon is still a fun horror game to experience. It has a solid horror story, some great actors to bring that story to life, and enough gameplay that works properly within that horror story scheme. The technical issues and price point of the game are the only two issues holding up a fun experience.
Until Dawn Remake is a painful reminder that change isn’t always good. A poor totem system, bad performance and clunky controls really hold it back from joining other great remakes of late.
Though it's hard not to see the validity of criticisms over its pricing and and questions over whether it even needed to be made, the Until Dawn remake is ultimately a solid and enhanced new version of a modern horror classic.
Until Dawn is a thrilling experience. For horror fans, this will be one of the best horror experiences that gaming has seen in years. It's a perfect balance of story telling and gameplay and doesn't drag on at all. I constantly found myself wanting to go back to find out what happened next which is rare in gaming narrative. Those looking for constant action may be disappointed, but I'd advise anybody who wants a unique and new experience to give it a go.
Again, the issue here is that Until Dawn didn’t need a remaster. Or a remake. I would wholeheartedly recommend everyone reading this buy and play the 2015 original, and I would equally recommend you banish this remake from your mind to never think of again. Fun fact: one image in this article is from the original and not the remake. Have fun deciding which is which!
Until Dawn remains a fantastic horror experience that should find a whole new audience to appreciate it, but with no upgrade, this remake is an expensive sell for returning players.
Until Dawn is a remake that does not improve on the original work and does not modernize the game in any way. The only bright spot is the switch to Unreal Engine 5, but the game structure remains old and looks unsuitable for modern audience.

The remake, however, is easier to recommend on PC, where it can take advantage of high-end hardware and find players who have never experienced the game before. Despite its questionable value, the Until Dawn remake is undeniably fun. Its modernised retelling of a scary story I enjoyed long ago remains just as engaging and visceral as it was the first time around. As an interactive horror movie, Ballistic Moon's Until Dawn takes meaningful strides towards storytelling excellence. But as a remake that shies away from mechanical improvements, it stops short of transforming its parts that are all video game.
The Until Dawn remake boosts its visuals, adds an exciting new ending, enhances immersion with an over-the-shoulder camera, and remains the top "interactive horror movie" game.
Players are going to have mixed feelings about the Until Dawn remake. The story remains as cheesy as ever, while the characters and performances elevate the experience. The changes are mostly good, with the better camera and touched-up graphics winning out over the changing of the soundtrack. However, the game really needed more time to polish out the bugs, especially since there's still plenty of time to get things before the movie hits. It's still a good title, but it could've been so much better if it weren't for the technical issues.
We've just witnessed how one of the best PS4 games has been treated for the proverbial “retreat.”

By finishing the Remake and immediately revisiting the classic, it became even more difficult to understand the purpose of the new version. It's hard to find a justification for recreating such a recent game. Even more so when the original version is as good as, if not better (in some aspects), than the new game. Until Dawn is good and worth playing, it's just not worth the investment of full price, when the classic edition is still competent.

Overall, Until Dawn remaster is a nice atmospheric slasher horror, well complemented by plenty of choices that can motivate you to play the game again. Although it is a walking simulator genre, it stands out in comparison to most similar titles with its cast and more cinematic style.

Back in 2015, Until Dawn would have made a bigger impact for its bold movie-like experience but now, it certainly falls a bit flat. 💀
Until Dawn is an interactive horror experience that, despite some technical flaws and animation inconsistencies, manages to offer a memorable narrative and an immersive environment. The game's ability to create suspense and tension, supported by an excellent soundtrack, maintains the player's interest throughout the story. There is an effort to update a well-rated title, although the characters' movements and facial expressions can break immersion at certain moments, the rich plot and meaningful choices make up for these imperfections. Even with its flaws, Until Dawn manages to provoke emotions that rival the best psychological horror experiences, becoming an important reference for fans of the genre.

No, Until Dawn Remake really doesn’t make the cut, once again highlighting how Sony hasn’t quite grasped the approach to remastering recent titles—especially with the PS5 being introduced with an emphasis on backward compatibility with PS4 games. Ballistic Moon did well, improving on a title that still holds up 9 years later. The real issue lies with the Japanese giant, which, while excelling in third-party collaborations, seems to have lost its internal production direction, as evidenced by the upcoming remake this month (still unclear who it’s for). Take the score below as a judgment on the entire operation, not the technical polish, which, though superficial, isn’t the problem. The issue is rooted much higher up.

"Until Dawn is a riveting experience not unlike the original 2015 release. While the game looks fantastic, the adjustments to the game direction impacts some of that tension that had the hairs sticking up on the back of our necks in the original. These changes feel like a desperate attempt to cater to modern audiences despite the fact the original game continues to remain relevant today."
The most unnecessary remake of this generation. While the graphics have improved, the controls have not improved at all and feel sluggish. Skip this one and enjoy the much cheaper original version.

Nine years after its launch, the reappearance of Until Dawn, this time for modern platforms, in our humble opinion, is not something that the industry needed, it was never really asked for by gamers.
