Until Dawn (2024) Reviews
Until Dawn (2024) struggles to honor the original game despite its graphical upgrades and new features. Technical issues detract from the experience, raising questions about the necessity of a remake for a PS4 native game priced at €70. While the original owners may not find it worthwhile, newcomers—especially PC players—might appreciate this chance to explore its strong narrative and horror atmosphere.

Until Dawn is a good remake of one of the best interactive horrors in gaming history. The great and suspenseful story can surprise anyone, however, the very high price and lack of a performance mode are big cons here.

Ballistic Moon’s Until Dawn remake polishes the 2015 horror classic with impressive visual upgrades and little additions. However, beyond the sharper visuals and slight changes, the core experience remains the same. Fans seeking a fresh take may find little reason to pick this up over the original, as the gameplay and story haven’t evolved beyond minor improvements.
Although it has been almost a decade since Until Dawn first arrived on PlayStation 4 consoles, its teen slasher narrative plot, superb voice actor performances, and nonlinear narrative as well as the setting, are incredibly relevant and captivating, proving without a shadow of a doubt-although the four chapters in The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry were still good games-that the high point for Supermassive Games is and will remain, at least until the release of Little Nightmares III (in which we have great confidence), precisely Until Dawn. A classic with vastly improved graphics and minor gameplay tweaks that offers an even more polished experience. The problem is that this edition costs a whopping €69.99 and mysteriously does not reach the 60 fps achievable by means of backward compatibility of the PS4 version on PS5. In short, although it is one of the best horror titles ever released in video game form, we struggle to recommend it. The quality is there but the price - in our opinion - is really too high for what it offers.

If you have never experienced Until Dawn, this remaster is fine, but for those who have played the game before, the technical issues are unfortunately too noticeable to ignore.
With so many better options available for PlayStation 5 and PC, it's hard to recommend Until Dawn Remake to anyone who's already played the original. It's a title that didn't need a remake, and frankly, shouldn't have gotten one.

Until Dawn Remake retains the elements that made the original a must-play narrative horror experience. However, justifying its full price is challenging when it closely mirrors the 2015 release. Despite some subtle improvements, such as enhanced control inputs, there are few new additions. Compounding this issue are the numerous performance problems and poor lighting, which detract from the immersion enjoyed in the original. While future patches may address these issues, the current state of the game does not warrant its steep price. It feels like we need to wait a bit longer to experience the game fully.
The remake of Until Dawn for PC and PS5 offers an impressive visual upgrade and subtle improvements to the dialogues and gameplay. The well-known butterfly effect system, where every choice influences the course of the story, still provides tension and high replayability. Although you can fully enjoy the immersive horror experience as a new player, the cinematic presentation is regularly disrupted by technical errors such as graphical bugs and framerate stutters. The price of €69.99 feels on the high side for a nine-year-old game, especially for returning players who already know the original version. Nevertheless, it remains a unique and exciting experience for newcomers.

The Until Dawn remake on the PS5 is a successful horror trip that should appeal to old fans and newcomers alike. The visual and atmospheric improvements allow the story about the tragic events on Blackwood Mountain to shine in new splendor, even if technical shortcomings such as the frame rate limited to 30 FPS and occasional bugs detract from the experience somewhat. Anyone who missed out on the horror classic or is in the mood for a modernized version will be thoroughly entertained despite some minor weaknesses.

It is a great game that is thrilling, scary, and downright campy, but I would recommend waiting until a price drop to pick up this Until Dawn remake.
Until Dawn (2024) is a visually stunning remake that certainly has its merits of being on PlayStation 5, but it is also the least necessary and important remake yet. The gameplay was never groundbreaking, but it gave way to a genre of interactive horror movie that elevated it for a unique social experience. Some of the changes are rather quizzical and inexplicable like removing the faster player movement, overcomplicating totems, and having subpar performance. When the original runs better and doesn’t look too worse off, you can save money here. At best, Until Dawn (2024) should have been a remaster like the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. There’s still a good game here, but it’s impossible not to compare it to the original that’s simply better in almost every way.
Until Dawn is recommended for those who enjoy tension-filled interactive narratives and decisions that affect the fate of the characters. Its enhanced visuals, new cinematics and immersion enhanced by DualSense haptic feedback make it a unique experience, ideal for fans of horror and replayability.

Until Dawn, one of PlayStation's most important horror titles, has finally arrived on PC. Unfortunately, performance issues and disappearing characters take away from the game's charm.

Until Dawn might be an interesting experience for those who didn’t have the chance to play it on PlayStation 4 or who want to experience the cutting-edge graphics of Unreal Engine 5, but beyond that, the remake has very little to add compared to the original. Not to mention, it needs some updates to fix its numerous performance issues and bugs.

Until Dawn is a faithful remake of the original while offering updated visuals and nothing more. Those unfamiliar with the franchise, this remake is an excellent way to pass the time—plenty of suspense, effective scares, and meaningful player choices that make the investment worthwhile. Plus, you will have a kick out of making fun of the numerous terrible characters featured in this game.
If you're only on PC, this is a solid way to experience my favorite horror game ever. PlayStation players may be better off with the original.
The Until Dawn Remake is a faithful yet enhanced reimagining of a horror classic. The improved visuals, expanded storytelling, and minor gameplay tweaks all contribute to a richer experience for both new and returning players. The game’s performance on the PS5, coupled with its faster load times and better graphics, makes it feel more polished than ever. While some might miss the fixed camera angles and others could find the new lighting system slightly off, these are minor quibbles in what is otherwise a standout remake. If you’ve played the original, you might not find the changes significant enough to warrant a repurchase unless you’re a diehard fan. However, if you’ve never played Until Dawn before, this remake is the definitive version to experience.
Until Dawn is an impressive remake, and whilst there might be some questions concerning whether or not it was needed, there is no doubt that this is the scariest that the game has ever been. It looks better than ever and there are extended sequences that flesh out the storytelling, whilst the switch of camera perspectives helps the experience feel fresh for returning players. It is a little disappointing that it is limited to a 30fps frame rate and it might’ve been nice to see a few more extras to justify the price tag, but Until Dawn’s interactive horror escapade still manages to feel better than ever here.
The Until Dawn remake features a solid graphical update, with noticeable improvements in the visual department and a few minor narrative additions. However, it remains a technically imperfect experience, and the changes are not enough to justify the 70-euro price tag, especially for those who have already played the original title.
