Sonic X Shadow Generations Reviews
The ravages of time are already showing on Sonic Generations, and while visually it's a very good improvement, some of the content changes are unnecessary and the gameplay hasn't aged well. Shadows Generations, by comparison, at least offers something fresh, albeit shorter. But it does manage to entertain, and you can enjoy those few hours with the game. Overall, this remaster isn't bad at all, but it also shows that Sonic has a problem these days and doesn't quite know how to deal with it.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is twice as nice, featuring the same stellar campaign from the original release along with a solid side-story featuring the Ultimate Life Form Shadow the Hedgehog. While this new content doesn’t quite hit the same highs with a number of hands-off sequences, it’s still worth a go for those who just can’t get enough of this malcontent.
Sonic X Shadow Generations could have been a better refresh of the 2011 classic, but this title is worth keeping an eye on. Shadow's campaign is interesting and shows that this character still has a lot to offer us.

Whether or not the combined offering of Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations is worth it will depend heavily on what your expectations for each half of the game are. For my part, I see this as a brand new game starring Shadow the Hedgehog with a remaster of an old game packed in, and by that metric I think it is a stellar package. Sonic X Shadow Generations may spend a lot of time looking at the franchise's past, but it represents the best I've felt about its future in a very long time.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a mishmash of enjoyable 2D platforming and frustrating 3D sequences. Shadow at least manages to somewhat mitigate the clumsy controls thanks to some interesting gameplay wrinkles. The title also looks good, but probably won't bring the pair of hedgehogs back to the forefront of the genre.
Sonic x Shadow Generations is a consistent and polished experience that reflects the love Sonic Team has for their series and that could absolutely be called a game “made by Sonic fans, for Sonic fans.” But even though Shadow Generations shows players a glimpse into the future, it falls short of being the future itself by being tied to the past through Sonic Generations. It’s a step in the right direction for sure, but with one foot forward and the other backward, it’s difficult to, in good faith, see Sonic x Shadow Generations as a “revival” or a full-on “evolution.” So, though it may provide diehard fans with the time of their life and the disillusioned with just enough hope to keep on going, it doesn’t quite reach the peak needed for it to be a defining moment for the series.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a delightful experience for any Sonic fan. Not only has the original Generations aged surprisingly well, but the new Shadow segment of the story contains just as much love for the parts of the franchise that came after the original release. The gameplay is quick, fun and accessible, and there's so much love for Sega's mascot and his dark counterpart that it's immensely enjoyable, no matter how many times it reminds me of Sonic 2006. It does the one thing I never imagined could happen: It really makes me want a new Shadow the Hedgehog game.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is basically two excellent games in one. Sonic Generations is a remaster of one of the hedgehog's best titles, while Shadow Generations is a new game that is based on the Sonic Frontiers formula to revisit the past of one of the most beloved characters by fans. Shadow's gameplay mechanics are great, the levels are fun and exploring White Space is very good. It is a round package and recommended.

Even though the new additions to Sonic Generations are very welcome, the real star of this package is Shadow. His levels, movements, story and the Overworld White Space are worthy of a character this important, and all the positive things this new campaign does can work perfectly in the next games of both him and Sonic.

I had a great time playing SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS with its modern adaptation of a genuine classic and its super-fun new campaign featuring Shadow the Hedgehog. This is such a bountiful package that any Sonic fan will absolutely love it. 🦔
Sonic X Shadow Generations is, simply, brilliant. It does everything you want it to and then some. Is it perfect? The answer is no, it isn’t, but heck it’s fun!
I played a lot of this game with a smile on my face, it was exactly what I’d hoped for going in, and plenty more else on top. Sonic Generations is one of the best releases in the series post-Mega Drive, but the addition of a genuinely fun adventure which gives Shadow the moment he deserves makes this not only one of my favourite Sonic releases, but one of my favourite releases this year. My only remaining hope now that the foundations for future adventures have been laid, is that Sega and Team Sonic continue to build on them, so that both their iconic mascot and his fans, get the games that they both deserve.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a package simply not to be missed. In addition to giving new luster to one of the most appreciated chapters dedicated to the blue hedgehog, the SEGA operation also conveys a darting, never-before-seen adventure dedicated to the charismatic black hedgehog. An outstanding ride at times, showcasing the full potential, as yet uncertainly explored, of the series in its three-dimensional incarnation. Two titles for the cost of one (actually less, given the budget price) for one of the best platformers of recent years. Unmissable.

With Sonic x Shadow Generations, Sonic Team has made an impressive comeback, taking the best elements of Sonic Generations and combining them with the drama and intensity of Shadow's storyline. The switch between styles and the different abilities of the two heroes bring a breath of fresh air to the Sonic formula without neglecting the roots of the series. The visual overhaul and the smooth presentation in performance mode round off the gaming experience. Nevertheless, a little more fine-tuning could have been done in some places, especially when it comes to long-term motivation in White Space - a more dynamic soundtrack and smaller mini-games would have made the exploration more varied. But that's criticism on a high level: all in all, Sonic x Shadow Generations is a thrilling adventure that offers plenty of fun for both long-time Sonic fans and newcomers alike.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve enjoyed playing a Sonic title this much, with both halves of Sonic X Shadow Generations combining to make a great package.
Sonic x Shadow Generations combines a remastered Sonic Generations with a fast, fluid, and fun Shadow-focused adventure that steals the show. Shadow generations introduces unique abilities, satisfying gameplay, an incredible soundtrack, and flawlessly crafted levels to produce the ultimate 3D platforming experience. While both games are relatively short, the combined pair offers unbeatable value that's a must-play for fans.
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS captures the essence of what Sonic fans love most about the series. Adding classic levels, along with Shadow's unique gameplay mechanics and an interesting storyline, is a big plus. At least that shows Sonic Team's passion for the rebirth of this series.
Sonic X Shadow Generations consists of two games: the new Shadow Generations and a remaster from Sonic Generations. The games both look great. The level design in the remaster is a bit nicer. The very high pace sometimes causes some difficulty with the controls. Nevertheless, the games are not unplayable. They are a bit on the short side, but take you into a real trip along old Sonic game worlds.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a fantastic blend of nostalgia and innovation. The remastered Sonic campaign pairs beautifully with the exciting new Shadow story, offering tight platforming and exhilarating speed. It's fun, polished, and full of surprises—definitely worth your time!
Sonic x Shadow Generations is a pack with two jewels of the franchise, one classic and one modern. With Shadow Generations, the developers showed the ability to make the most out of Sonic Frontiers' not so polished new concepts and deliver them with more quality here, evolving the series. The franchise's future is in good hands if the next game keeps up with the content this miniadventure delivered.
