Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is about chilling out, chasing personal bests, and enjoying the bone-crunching hits that ensue. Ironically, that means this game is at its best when it isn't so lonely. Grab some friends and hit the slopes, but maybe wait for a few patches first.

“Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders” is a big improvement from Megagon Industries previous game in some areas, not so much in others. While it captures the spirit of “Lonely Mountains: Downhill”, I do miss the more challenging objectives – replaced with an online focused run mode. I hope they bring it back in later updates.

Well, I think we have found the first near-masterpiece indie game of 2025. Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders takes everything that made Megagon Industries’ first title great and strides forward with a super-polished experience. I’ve managed to play this across several devices for this review: Xbox Series X, Lenovo Legion Go, and even cloud gaming on my mobile phone. It is the perfect game to engage with anywhere you are and with the Xbox play anywhere feature it is available freely once in your personal library too. The addictive nature of just one more run, as you strive for perfection, is ever-present. It’s a game which is a challenge to master but is oh-so-satisfying when you hit courses perfectly. If you’re an Xbox player, you’re in luck since it has been integrated into the Xbox Game Pass library for January 2025. But even at its £20.99 price point, it is well worth every penny for the number of hours you could sink into its slopes.

The developers at Megagon Industries have done a great job on building on their first game by adding a bunch of excellent new ideas, a fun multiplayer suite and what feels like a great, fresh take on skiing with the tight, responsive controls they’re known for. It’s addictive, thrilling stuff and I can’t wait to hit the slopes as soon as I’ve finished writing this. It’s available on Xbox Game Pass and Steam, and I hope you try it out.

After the great success of Lonely Mountains: Downhill the bar will have been set very high and let me tell you, they developers have done a great job. Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders has a fun and challenging vibe. It really peaks at the constant supply or thrill just like Downhill did. I spent a solid 4 hours into the late night playing this and was completely frozen in! The only thing I would add as a slight negative is that the game started with a lower amount of content than I thought. But again with the amount of content Downhill got after release I am hopeful this will get the same incredible and loving treatment. I will always support a developer that throws their passion into the game. This is definitely one of those! With everything taken into consideration I will be awarding Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders with a Platinum Thumb Culture Award. Now I’m back off to the snow! See ya!

Lonely Mountains: Snows Riders is an absolute delight to play thanks to its addictive challenges, wonderful presentation, and brilliant gameplay loop. I’ve been completely hooked in from the moment I started playing, and with multiplayer proving to be an excellent addition to the formula that complements the more relaxing vibe of the single player experience, I can’t see me leaving these mountains anytime soon.

I rarely, if ever, play any kind of racing games nowadays and while one might not consider this a racing game, it still definitely fills that niche for some gamers. That being said, Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders was a lot of fun! It strikes a nice balance between those looking to break some time records on a trail and those looking to unwind and take a trip down some beautiful mountainsides. My hope is that Megagon Industries continues to invest in this game and develop more facets that keep future players hitting the slopes as time goes by!

I really enjoyed Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders‘ core premise, and I honestly think this game has a lot of potential… as long as it is able to maintain its servers filled up for the foreseeable future. It’s a really fun racing game, set in a unique locale for today’s standards, but considering its paultry amount of content and dangerously barren single player campaign, it will live or die based on its multiplayer population.

Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders changes the bike for skis and the result is a tremendously fun game, with precise control and surprising physics. It is true that it is too similar to Downhill in its core (tracks and approach) and that it lacks some content, but I can't hide from you that I had a great time and I'm still looking for trophies. You'll have fun.

Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is the quintessential winter escape, the tight controls paired with breath-taking vistas are this game’s bread and butter. While progression can feel slow, playing the game is anything but. I am looking forward to what more will be coming to the game in terms of updates, but for what’s here at launch, is a careful balance of challenging but fair slopes. Simply put, Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is gnar, top to bottom.
