Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Reviews
The enormous passion and talent of a small indie producer result in a beautiful tribute to the best classic JRPGs. Even though it lacks originality at its core, the combat system is exciting and the cinematic execution is brilliant.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has some issues, but the positives overshadow the negatives. With such high production standards in combat, storytelling, characterisation, and world design, it is an RPG worth your time.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 doesn’t just deliver a fantastic RPG experience—it leaves a lasting emotional imprint that’s hard to forget. From its gripping narrative to its deep combat system, it’s a title that has the potential to become a modern classic in the RPG genre. It’s been so long since a game delivered a steady, exhilaratingly smooth ride without crashing hard at the finish line. If people allow it, this could be a kid’s Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger – a game remembered decades from now as the one that sparked their love for RPGs, captivating a generation, and inspiring future titles that will come after.
Clair Obscur is not for everyone, especially in today’s age when we supposedly know what the modern audience’s taste is like, but for those who know what they're looking for, this is a true gem!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is truly something special, combining some fantastic turn-based combat and RPG progression with a heartfelt and well-told story about dealing with loss and paving the way for the future. It’s one of the finest RPGs in years and will likely be remembered for years to come.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a graphically beautiful game, but despite its glowing potential, it does little to innovate within the RPG genre. The lack of navigation tools makes exploring its world incredibly frustrating, and the story only starts to get interesting near the very end.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reminded me why I love RPGs so much. It's brilliant in everything it sets out to do and, given the current circumstances, even if some disagree that the existence of video games is a miracle, this game is something very close to it at least.

Overall, in a time when so many games feel designed by committee and driven by trends, ‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’ stands out as a heartfelt statement of artistic vision. Sandfall Interactive has delivered a deeply emotional, mechanically rich RPG that respects its JRPG inspirations while confidently forging its own path.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a fantastic RPG that makes turn based combat far more engaging through the real time mechanics. But what truly fuels the game is the extremely original writing, characters with depth, and mechanics that allows you to absorb the story the right way, while also giving you space to explore the game as you like.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a breathtaking and emotionally rich JRPG with one of the genre's best combat systems, crafted with such artistry it rivals the classics it's inspired by.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the perfect launch for Sandfall Interactive. It is a phenomenal game inspired by cult jRPGs with a huge and emotional story whose characters stay in our memory for a long time. Adding to this a great combat system, a beautiful game world and very good gameplay gives us in combination a big candidate for game of the year.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a fascinating and engaging RPG that offers an intellectually stimulating experience. With a solid, unique and original narrative, innovative gameplay - especially with regard to the combat system - and functional graphics, the game succeeds in keeping the player glued to the screen, leveraging the combination of exploration, mystery and combat. Despite some minor flaws related especially to the ending - a bit choppy and seemingly lost in its own ambition and some technical uncertainties - the title stands out for its ability to deliver an immersive and memorable experience. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is - in our opinion - the most impressive debut role-playing game we have ever had the good fortune to play.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an inspired love letter to Persona and Final Fantasy with compelling writing, strong characters and inventive turn-based combat - a promising Game of the Year contender.
For me, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 really is a stand out with the turn based RPG genre and Sandfall Interactive have really brought the mechanics up to snuff to suit modern RPG standards to rival the big hitters like final fantasy. The world is insanely detailed and absolutely gorgeous, the combat although having slight pitfalls is incredibly interesting and majorly addictive and the main highlight has to easily be the story and characters and those jaw dropping cinematics that are seen throughout the experience. I went into Clair Obscur with an open mind but thinking it was going to be a run of the mill Turn Based RPG with some good visuals. However I was absolutely blown out of the water in every single way. This is a Turn based RPG that will truly stay with you many days, months and years after the release and I can tell this is going to be one that will change your mind if you have never been into these sort of turn based experiences. I loved my time with this game and I heavily recommended buying it or diving into it on Xbox Game Pass right now!
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stunning turn-based RPG which brings together a beautifully crafted world, an intriguing narrative and snappy combat. Compelling characters and a mysterious storyline will send you on your own expedition, in search of answers to all the questions the game throws your way.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a mesmerizing RPG masterpiece, combining stunning art, innovative combat, and heart-wrenching storytelling into an unforgettable adventure.

Channeling true JRPG excellence while putting its own western twist on the genre and turn-based combat, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an absolutely belting game. It has exquisite writing and story craft, wonderfully stylish and multifaceted combat, and is a blisteringly beautiful assault on all the senses from top-notch voice acting and audio to some of the most beautiful environments I’ve seen in years. It has the scope and execution of a game built by hundreds of developers, not a few dozen, and is easily an early game of the year contender.
Clair Obscur is not a genre revival, but it builds on proven foundations and brings a fresh wind of originality. With the combination of high-quality story and strong characters it makes a compact and bloated experience with the heart. Thanks to those a few flaws you'll gladly forgive it for.
