A Game About Digging a Hole is exactly as it says. So, if you're looking for something a bit more engaging, I wouldn't recommend this game. However, if you're looking for a quick, satisfying, and easy game in which you can mindlessly dig, sell resources, and upgrade your tools, it's perfect.

A quietly satisfying digging game whose simple systems come together better than expected, despite notable technical issues.

A Game About Digging a Hole is exactly what it claims to be, and nothing more. On Nintendo Switch, it works best as a low-effort, high-satisfaction time waster—something to fill small gaps in your day with meaningless progress and quiet amusement. It won’t be for everyone, but for those willing to embrace its absurd simplicity, there’s something oddly compelling about staring into the void and deciding to dig a bit deeper.

This is a game about digging a hole in the ground and it's just as fun as it sounds, if not more!

A Game About Digging A Hole is a small, sincere delight: tactile digging, a satisfying upgrade loop, and a warm, minimalist personality deliver excellent value at a coffee‑price. It’s perfect for short breaks and casual completionists, with surprising replayability for collectors. A few targeted fixes; more late‑game goals, clearer achievement tracking, and improved stability around cutscenes, would lift it from a charming diversion to a lasting indie favorite.

A Game About Digging A Hole is an honest title that doesn't try to be something it’s not (with the exception of that rather questionable stealth section at the end). While technically solid—thanks to the Unreal Engine—the progression feels a bit too linear and uninspired.

A Game About Digging a Hole isn’t about plunging into the depths of humanity, or a critique of capitalism; it’s a game about digging a really large hole and enjoying your time doing it. If you’re after a game where you can switch off and dig a hole without causing any real-world damage, this is a must-have. There are a few glitches here and there, and with only one environment to dig through, some will find it boring, but if you want to reminisce about days spent at the beach trying to get to China, then this is a game for you.

A Game About Digging A Hole is proof that not all games need to have 50+ hours of content to be great. In fact, the short length actually works in its favour, giving players just enough content before the admittedly repetitive gameplay grows stale. Trophy hunters may be disappointed at the lack of a Platinum Trophy, but, for the price of a coffee, this is well worth playing! Thus, I’m awarding A Game About Digging A Hole, a Thumb Culture Gold Award! Isn’t that fitting?

A Game About Digging A Hole was a nice, calm distraction from the chaos of all the multiplayer shooters. I found the whole experience oddly addictive and just ploughed through whilst listening to my favourite podcasts.

Maybe it’s just me, or maybe the mainstream market has moved beyond what I can appreciate, but despite the brief fun it offers, I struggle to understand where A Game About Digging a Hole really fits. I wasn’t expecting a grand adventure, especially knowing its origins, yet I still wonder how such a simple concept made its way to consoles after its success on PC. It’s not a flawed or sloppy product—there’s clear care behind it—but it’s hardly a game that can hold attention for long. In the end, it’s a harmless little pastime worth its modest price, but its lack of depth makes it easy to forget. And yes, that pun was absolutely intended.

A Game About Digging a Hole ended up being a cosy little surprise. The loop is simple but weirdly satisfying, the upgrades keep things moving, and the whole experience has a calm, almost meditative feel to it. It is a short game, but the budget price makes that completely fair. If you enjoy small, focused games you can relax with for an evening, this one is easy to enjoy.

A Game About Digging A Hole™ doesn’t disappoint in terms of gameplay. It is literally a game about digging a hole. There is something quite enjoyable about digging, gathering ores, selling and then upgrading the tools. The ending is somewhat different to what I imagined, but has its own humour. It can be a little frustrating when the shovel refuses to dig, or you get stuck on a few pixels of soil, but overall, A Game About Digging A Hole™ provides good entertainment.

I recommend giving A Game About Digging A Hole your time. That way, you can see what a simulator can provide and how it pushes the envelope a little bit in terms of where it wants to go with the story. Not just that, but it may even tempt you to dive back in for more than one playthrough of digging for treasure in your backyard.

A Game About Digging A Hole may not revolutionize the gaming world, but it doesn’t have to. It’s a small, well-crafted experience that delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re in the mood for something light and relaxing—or if you’re nostalgic for the days of Newgrounds flash games—you’ll find plenty to enjoy here. It’s not a game you’ll play for weeks on end, but for an afternoon of cathartic digging and upgrading, it’s well worth the price. Just remember: this game is about digging a hole. Nothing more, nothing less. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

A Game About Digging a Hole is exactly what it promises: a simple, silly and unpretentious experience, but one that delivers honest fun for those looking for something different and without commitment. Its basic gameplay loop — digging, finding items, selling and improving equipment — may seem repetitive at first, but becomes more engaging as the player progresses. The game doesn't worry about guiding the player or teaching them how things in this little world work, which reinforces its casual and straightforward proposal.

A Game About Digging a Hole is a minimalist experience that will not blow you away. However, it is enjoyable in small doses. I liked the straightforward action and the freedom to explore. However, a lack of structural items creates grind. If the developer expands the core idea, this could be something special.

Ultimately, the gameplay is the same from start to finish. Dig for a while, fill your inventory, fly out of the hole, sell your ores, upgrade if you can afford it, go back in the hole. You start to feel like you’re living Groundhog Day.

Now, A Game About Digging A Hole keeps it simple and fun. It doesn’t try to do anything too wild, which I’m okay with. The game knows what it wants to do and I Dig it. The only improvements (well, more like suggestions) are to add some secrets while digging or maybe bones. Other than that, the game is enjoyable and great for killing some time. So I would recommend it and I think it deserves A Thumb Culture Gold Award.
