Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is a classic 90s platformer through and through. This remaster didn't fully reinvent what we once had, but it did do a lot to make it feel like a modern platformer. Initially the levels are pretty short and straight forward, but the game quickly ramps up the difficulty and that alone greatly expands the playtime. Those who simply want to rush through the main levels are given a reason to go back and find all of the collectibles, and the challenge levels are even harder yet! While the game doesn't do anything too crazy by today's standards, that doesn't stop it from being a fun simple platformer from days gone by.

Even though it's a simple revitalization effort that might disappoint those who wanted a full remake, the initiative to make Croc: Legend of the Gobbos available for current systems is very welcome. Fortunately, the remastering effort was solid and clearly carried out by a team that is passionate about the original game.

Argonauts Games offers us a trip back in time to the PSX and Saturn times, but with substantial life improvements. Its title maintains all the essence that made this crocodile stand out.

All in all, Croc The Legend of the Gobbos Remastered does what it says on the tin – remaster a 1997 video game with an upspuff in visuals and improved controls. Keeping the rest of the game as was is great in theory, but too many 90’s sensibilities remain in terms of wonky level design and difficulty spikes. It’s certainly more enjoyable thanks to the improvements made, and I’m all for reviving old games for a new lease on life, but this game is far from the best of the era and it certainly can’t challenge the modern greats that have come since.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered is an operation that brings back one of the classic platformers of a bygone era. This new version of Argonaut Games' work therefore deserves to be played by neophytes as well as nostalgics, who will find nothing more (extra menus aside) than what is crammed into their memories.

The Croc remaster is the definitive version of a classic that was already very competent! The new version makes what was already a simple but charming game even better, with reworked visuals and a control scheme remade for the current generation.

In a sea of unnecessary remasters, Croc is a breath of fresh air and a game that actually warrants a remaster. I have had so much fun going back to this classic game. It’s been the most fun I’ve had in a while and is easy to just pick up and play. I have given Croc the Thumb Culture Platinum Award because I had fun every second I was playing. I think the flashing gems need adjusting by the devs to make the game easier on the eyes. Aside from that, this game was perfect. It deserves nothing less than the platinum because it clearly isn’t planning on giving me one!

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered is a heartfelt revival of a cult classic, bringing the beloved reptilian hero back to life with a blend of nostalgia and modern refinements. While some aspects of the original game can feel a little uninspired, the graphical enhancements, smoother controls, and wealth of bonus content ensure that this remaster offers a very special trip down memory lane. If you’re a Croc fan, you can easily add an extra point onto the score down below, because it’s clear a lot of love and care went into this release. And if you never played it? This is a wonderful way to experience one of the most delightful platformers from the days of the PSOne.

The Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster makes this childhood favourite playable in the modern age, and is still a hell of a lot of fun.

Besides some dated boss battles, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remaster shows that the original game is still leagues above some of the best that Sonic and Mario have to offer. Many will disagree, but that is just conditioned bias. Croc is a nostalgic blast of absolutely epic proportions.

Crocs simplistic story and gameplay felt very much like it's own thing especially back in 1997 among other games at the time but the remaster of this game makes a lot of the flaws more noticeable sadly. It still is very much a charming game in it's own right and it was nostalgic if anything to play again especially with the soundtrack that remained untouched. I still hope the team decide to do a Remaster of Croc 2 as I can see they are passionate to the fans and who knows we may see Croc 3 one day in all its glory.
