Elden Ring: Nightreign Reviews
While Nightreign offers a satisfying experience in terms of its core gameplay mechanics, it can become monotonous because the content doesn’t feel particularly fresh. Still, I’d say it has secured a solid place within the roguelike genre.

Rarely have I been left with such mixed feelings as after playing Elden Ring Nightreign. The whole idea and concept of the game is absolutely brilliant. It’s just a real shame to have to conclude that the execution is particularly poor. When you can’t play the game with one or two friends, having an enjoyable run is purely down to luck. The lack of basic multiplayer tools such as voice chat and cross-play is unacceptable to me. Although there will eventually be the option to play the game with two players, this should have been a day-one feature. To me, Elden Ring Nightreign therefore feels like a missed opportunity.

From the first moment, Elden Ring: Nightreign proves to be more than just an expansion; it's a standalone work of art brimming with creativity and profound storytelling. It's a polished experience bearing the hallmarks of FromSoftware's renowned expertise, delivering entirely new content that enriches the world of the original game and adds an even darker, more mysterious dimension.

It's one of the best 3-player co-op games when played as designed, but implementing it is harder than you might think and solo play is unbalanced.

Overall, Elden Ring Nightreign has defied expectations and become a highly successful and addictive title. It’s worth noting that in its early days, the game didn’t have the level of polish it has now, and FromSoftware has transformed it into what it is today with each update.
Nightreign isn't a new milestone in FromSoftware's history—it's a bold departure that trades the vastness of exploration for the urgency of shared survival. It's a less grandiose but more focused experience, where every decision matters and every victory is earned together. It may not appeal to purists, but for those who embrace this new approach, there's an addictive and demanding formula here that rewards dedication and cooperation. It's not the next Souls epic, but it's a reminder that FromSoftware still knows how to surprise—even when it trades the epic for the ephemeral, solitude for shared chaos.

FromSoftware have tried their hand at an entirely different style of game in Elden Ring Nightreign. The stripped-down, condensed and multiplayer-orientated focus leave a title that has many thrilling moments, but feels devoid of the life and soul that made the original Elden Ring such a special experience. Entering this fog alone is folly, but with a couple of like-minded Souls vets, there's plenty of great moments to be had amongst the repetition.
Despite its issues, Elden Ring: Nightreign is an exhilarating experiment. It’s not just more Elden Ring, and it’s not trying to be. It repurposes a world we already know and remixes it into something fast, chaotic, and strangely addicting. It trims the fat, strips away the lore-heavy open world, and drops you into a fight for survival that demands tight coordination, smart planning, and adaptability.
As a roguelike, it can’t quite support the variety expected of the genre. And yet, the core of FromSoftware’s combat is still strong enough that the game is still a blast with friends and so is still somewhat successful at what it sets out to achieve — just don’t expect it to be a big RPG.
It's fun, unexpected, and challenging. Everything you'd want from a title like this. Even if it doesn't look and feel exactly like we initially imagined.
It's not an Elden Ring sequel. It's a completely different beast — wild, challenging, and merciless, and that's why you can fall in love in her. Can you handle her temper though? Just try it yourself.

Nightreign succeeds as a challenging co-op action experience for groups of three, offering satisfying FromSoftware-inspired combat without narrative depth. However, those expecting Elden Ring-level innovation will find it disappointingly derivative. A niche but competent title.

This is a game that focuses on adaptation and teamwork in short but action-packed matches. Thanks to the vast experience of Hidetaka Miyazaki's studio, it draws on different playstyles to achieve a synergy that gives the title—despite belonging to the Elden Ring universe—a lot of personality.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is not a failure, but it can't quite be called a victory either. Its future still hangs in the balance. Only in the coming years will we see whether it can be shaped into something truly unique and memorable. The potential — both in terms of gameplay and creativity — is certainly there.

Elden Right Nightreign is exactly what it promised to be: a more simplified and unique take on the Elden Ring formula. Despite being fun and engaging, it still lacks overall polishing, making it not flawless but still good enough to recommend it to both veterans and newcomers. We hope it's the first step towards the next FromSoftware experience, The Duskbloods.

Elden Ring Nightreign blends Soulslike combat with roguelike mechanics, resulting in a mostly dynamic cooperative adventure. However, the game’s lack of crossplay and duo support makes grouping inconvenient, and reuses too many assets while offering somewhat shallow progression.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a game that understands its own identity and hones in on that. The returning bosses are a treat for older FromSoft players, and the new mechanics are fun yet challenging to wrap your head around. With future content planned, I see myself returning to Nightreign with each new boss drop for years to come.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is one of the best in its genre, but a horror for those looking for a more moderate gaming experience.

However, over time, the maps and enemies become repetitive, which detracts from the experience's variety and makes the single-player experience cumbersome and unbalanced. Add to that technical performance issues with a noticeable frame rate drop on PS5, and you've got an experience that needed more polish before launch. However, there's a real chance of improving it with future updates, making it a fresh experience worthy of the ELDEN RING name.

Elden Ring Nightreign is certainly not a bad game, but it is also not a high flyer. The story is very scanty and you are just quickly bored with what to do. You get the most out of it if you decide to play with friends. But don't expect a evening -filling program, because after an hour the boredom starts to strike.
