Gears of War: Reloaded Reviews
Gears of War: Reloaded on PlayStation 5 is a passionate celebration of everything that made the original series great. It's an unbeatable opportunity to relive a masterpiece and an invitation to belong to one of the richest universes and one of the most rewarding third-person shooter experiences of all time. Highly recommended.

A remaster that, between one misstep and one shortcoming, reminds everyone, without exception, how important, epic, and devastating the impact of the first Gears of War was.

Gears of War Reloaded does not attempt to reinvent the wheel: it is a careful and respectful tribute to the classic that changed third-person shooters.

Gears of War: Reloaded offers a solid first impression for PlayStation newcomers, but not all of the 2006 classic holds up as well as we may remember.
Playing Gears of War: Reloaded is a beautiful reminder of how far the industry has come and what we've lost along the way. Upfront, Reloaded is a remaster of a remaster and does nothing to improve the nearly twenty-year-old game.
Gears of War: Reloaded delivers stunning visuals and smooth performance, with 4K textures, upgraded frame rates, and enhanced lighting, making the experience sharper and more immersive than ever. Yet, despite these upgrades, the lack of new content leaves the game feeling very familiar, and the reasons to revisit are sparse.
Minimally improved over the Ultimate version, this Gears of War Reloaded justifies its release thanks to its arrival on PlayStation 5, which is clearly its target audience. For that reason, its reception will be completely different across platforms: of little or no interest to Xbox and PC users who already enjoyed the previous version, but very appealing to PlayStation 5 users who, until now, had not been able to experience what is one of Microsoft Studios’ best sagas. A great saga, whose original title remains one of its finest entries.

Gears of War: Reloaded is a blast of 2000s-era sci-fi, appearing here in better shape than ever before. It's not particularly smart or clever through a modern lens, but it remains a hell of a lot of good old-fashioned fun.
Gears of War: Reloaded is a great way for PlayStation owners to get into the series or for returning players to scratch that nostalgia itch.
Gears of War: Reloaded feels like a title brought to PlayStation for its convenience, and while I think it will be a hit on its new platform, it feels like a dead end for audience growth.
Despite a number of flaws, Gears of War remains an excellent game with polished gameplay. The same can be said about the Ultimate Edition. As for Gears of War: Reloaded, this re-release is worth recommending to new players on PlayStation 5.

After 20 years of exclusive, Gears of War is now available on PlayStation 5 with the very first chapter of the series further refined, enhanced, and complete with all content released to date. A few wrinkles are noticeable, and the rigidity of the gameplay may make it a little hard to swallow for younger players accustomed to exaggerated speeds, but the charisma is still there, and the power of the war between COG and Locusts is still ready to make your Lancer explode in your hands.

One of the most iconic Xbox franchises ever lands on PS5 with somewhat of a graphical thud. On its second remaster, Gears of War: Reloaded won't impress visually. However, with a campaign that still has something to offer despite its dated design, and an excellent multiplayer mode on top, this is a welcome introduction to the Gears of War series. 20 years later, the game that started it all is still more than worth playing.
Gears of War: Reloaded is the best way to play one of the most important shooters ever made, thanks to drastically improved visuals and timeless gunplay. The story is a little thin and there are a few annoying bugs, but this all-time classic has never looked so good.
I wish we had the ability to remap controls, but overall, Reloaded did an excellent job of scratching a nostalgic itch I didn’t even know I had. If there are plans to remaster Gears 2 and 3, I’ll be there, Lancer in hand.
Taken on its own merits some nineteen years since its original release, Gears of War remains a blast to play, only showing its age in minor ways which do little to detract from what is a seminal piece of work. Though not too far removed from 2015's Ultimate Edition, the lower price of entry makes this easier to stomach for PlayStation owners tempted to dive into the series that defined a generation of Xbox fans and that few games have bettered in the proceeding years.
Could it have been more technically surprising? Yes. Could it have taken a few more risks? Yes. But what we have here is a polished, immortal classic, and more enjoyable than ever thanks to the power of Xbox Series X.

Gears of War Reloaded is the absolute best way to experience or relive the adventure of Marcus Fenix and company, now also on PlayStation 5 (and on PS5 Pro it even features extra options that further improve the already excellent quality seen in the Ultimate version). The only problem is that, once you've finished the campaign alone or in co-op, you'll probably want more, and the wait for E-Day seems to be a long one.

Gears of War's simple shooting and world design are as strong now as they were in 2007, but Reloaded's more technologically advanced visuals sap away the earlier versions' grimy cartoon charm.
Gears of War: Reloaded is a lot of fun, plain and simple. Its story sustains a robust pace while the action barely lets up. The remastered visuals bring new layers of immersion to a gameplay loop that quickly gets addictive despite a lack of variety in weapons and enemy types. If you're looking for a title that takes a no nonsense approach to its presentation, Marcus Fenix and the COG definitely have you covered.
