The newest entry into the Ninja Gaiden series aims to be accessible to new players by setting the established narrative aside. Gameplay is king here, and Platinum Games show once again that they know how to make arena brawlers. However, the game as a whole is dragged down by the constant reuse of basic enemies. Pacing takes a huge hit when you have to fight the same enemies for an hour after they have already become stale and boring.

Ninja Gaiden 4 marks a successful revival of the series, signaling a strong new beginning. Despite divisive elements like a new protagonist and revamped combat system, everything comes together seamlessly. However, the narrative - while more serious in tone - falls short of its ambitious potential, leaving some lingering disappointment.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a compelling and ruthless return to form, bridging two worlds: the brutality of Team Ninja and the cinematic spectacle of PlatinumGames. It's not a perfect return to the original formula, nor does it rewrite the rules of the genre, but it retains the hardcore soul that defines the series, enriched by small but clever modernizations. The deep and challenging gameplay, strong visual identity, and adrenaline-fueled pace make it a title capable of satisfying those who are able to master its rules and want to test their skills, but it is equally accessible to those who simply want to experience a high-level ninja adventure. The technical aspects are quite solid, the art direction is consistent (though it doesn't reach the heights of other similar products today), and the action is extremely satisfying. There are still some limitations related to the environmental design (in particular, the graphics are not always up to date, characterized by some flat and unrealistic textures), the linearity of the narrative, and the balance, which is not always perfect, but the overall experience is that of intense, effective, lethal action, (almost) without compromise and as sharp as a real ninja's blade.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is the game that fans have been waiting for over ten years. It remembers what made the series great: the never-ending difficulty, the graceful violence, and the need to be perfect. Then it adds a modern touch.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is not perfect. Its scenery is rather monotonous, Ryu is reduced to some sort of little treat for longtime fans and its music score is not memorable, but the way it blends PlatinumGames' elegance and Team Ninja's wickedness is nothing short of a miracle thanks to its content and responsiveness, and that's enough of a reason to be interested in this game.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a worthy, punishing new game in the hack n' slash series - its exhilarating, stylish and engaging combat is so damn good, you probably wouldn't mind some of its weaker elements.

Ninja Gaiden 4 had a difficult task: navigating the heavy legacy of a series that has made difficulty one of its trademarks while also satisfying a new audience looking for deep but accessible action. Yakumo and Ryu's mission was accomplished with flying colours, and the latest addition to the Team Ninja saga is an extremely entertaining action game, but with a combat system ready to be dissected by the most demanding fans.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a triumphant return, a successful fusion between Team NINJA’s elegance and PlatinumGames’ trademark spectacle. With its deep combat system, an all-new protagonist, and a world that lives and dies alongside the player, this new chapter manages to honor the legend of Ryu Hayabusa while paving the way for a new generation of ninjas. It’s not just a sequel; it’s a rebirth, a statement on how to reinvent an icon without betraying its soul. At its core, Ninja Gaiden 4 is a true lesson in design and discipline. We’d like to thank Xbox for providing us with a review code for this game.

Ninja Gaiden 4 brings the series back to the forefront as one of the strongest action and hack-and-slash titles, delivering an adventure that will captivate challenge-seekers with its brutal combat, dark atmosphere, and epic soundtrack. Despite a few flaws, its strengths come together in a package that makes Ninja Gaiden 4 one of the finest modern action experiences — and without a doubt, one of the best entries in the series.

In the areas where a "Ninja Gaiden" game should excel, "Ninja Gaiden 4" largely excels. Slaughtering your way through almost endless hordes of soldiers and demons with Yakumo and Ryu, while blood spurts and body parts fly, feels fantastic.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is not a game built for comfort. It is built for those who still believe that skill matters. Every cut, every dodge, every perfectly timed strike reinforces that belief. By the time the credits roll, one truth becomes clear: the way of the ninja has not been forgotten. It has merely been waiting for the right blade to bring it back to life.

PlatinumGames sought to replicate the success of NieR: Automata and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance with Ninja Gaiden 4, and when it comes to the combat system, the outcome is positive. However, the game suffers from overly restrictive level design, poor storytelling, and an art direction that leaves much to be desired.
