The Outer Worlds 2 stands out for its execution of RPG mechanics, polished level design and skill system. Its story, featuring sharp satire and a wide variety of dialogue options, is enriched by its progression, giving the game replayability. However, this ambition is hampered by unsatisfying combat, tedious open-world exploration, and a main storyline with no memorable antagonists.

The Outer Worlds 2 improves over the first with a more compelling story and better combat, while still delivering and even expanding on the game’s great setting and character writing. While the story isn’t shaped by the player’s choices as much as in other RPG titles, you’ll still find a lot of immersive roleplaying to be done in this game’s stand-out original universe.

While The Outer Worlds 2 doesn’t reinvent the formula, its deep role-playing systems and engaging companions offer strong replay value. The witty, if sometimes heavy-handed, writing and player-driven choices make it a worthwhile RPG despite weak combat.

If it were a product by Auntie Cleo, The Outer Worlds 2 would be marketed with the tagline "Now with Slightly Improved Flavor!". And fittingly so, since it is a highly entertaining sequel that takes the basic formula of the first Outer Worlds and improves upon it, even if only slightly, in every possible aspect.

The Outer Worlds 2, despite any criticism I can give it, is a more improved sequel that excels in every area except for its bland group of companions, who rarely bring anything exciting to the experience, save Aza, who is a treasure and I would die for her. The Bethesda-era formula is starting to show its age and needs some freshening up, should a third entry be in the works. Still, I rather enjoyed the main story and the vast array of choices, paths, and builds you can muster, making this a game that few will follow in the same footsteps, allowing for one truly personalized tale of space-faring hijinks.

With The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian took very few risks. The game offers little in the way of innovation but is enjoyable to play, colorful, and varied without being truly groundbreaking. It takes us on an adventure blending imperial warfare with the internal struggles and conspiracies that arise from it. A good time that quickly reveals its limitations. And above all, it will absolutely have to change for the studio's next game.

Obsidian has mastered staying within its design scopes, and The Outer Worlds 2 is a perfect embodiment of that philosophy. The game is essentially the same as its predecessor, but it builds upon its combat and role-playing mechanics to deliver one of the most Obsidian-ass Obsidian games in a while. The Outer Worlds 2 is not trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it gives players a wacky space adventure where player agency comes first. A fine feat and a true return to form.

The Outer Worlds 2 demonstrates that Obsidian knows how to craft sequels: they retain what works, enhance features, add more options, and create a world that is both silly and scary, yet also very interesting. This is a great RPG to play, whether you’ve played the first one or this is your first time in Arcadia.

The Outer Worlds 2 succeeds at being exactly what it appears to be: more Outer Worlds. It delivers refined combat, memorable companions, and Obsidian’s unmistakable narrative brilliance, but it plays things safe, feeling smaller in imagination even as it expands in scope. Fans of the first game will find plenty to love, the sharp humor, choice-driven storytelling, and endearingly flawed characters are all here, but it never truly escapes the shadow of its predecessor. What emerges is a game that feels like a lavish, story-rich expansion rather than a bold sequel. For all its polish and heart, it’s a triumph of style and stability rather than evolution. It’s easy to recommend and even easier to enjoy, yet its comfort and familiarity hold it back from greatness, making it feel more like a return to a beloved home than the beginning of a daring new journey.

If you’re into RPGs with real depth, and you love worlds packed with corporate insanity, sarcastic robots, and tough moral choices, then The Outer Worlds 2 is absolutely for you. This is Obsidian at their finest.

Experience in The Outer Worlds 2 comes from what you do and how you feel about it. XP isn't just given for fighting; it's also given for good conversation, successful stealth, and even failure, so progression stays the same no matter how you play. When you level up, you get skill points and sometimes extra benefits. It's a simple rhythm that's tough to learn. You can't get any more XP after level 30. This takes away the reason to grind. It's a strange choice that slows things down after the game, but it shows that the person who made it values well-thought-out design over endless fluff.

The Outer Worlds 2 is more of the same CRPG you loved from the talented and diligent hands of Obsidian Entertainment. Whether you're burnt out from open-world games is really on your spectrum, but this is what I prefer over a Bethesda-made open-world title that focuses on quantity.

The Outer Worlds 2 is a magnificent science fiction RPG and a sequel that improves on the original in every way. Obsidian is back in top form with a game that offers real freedom, brilliant dialogue, and decisions that matter. Its retro-futuristic universe is lovingly crafted and brimming with personality, and although some narrative twists feel forced, it's an absorbing, deep, and hilarious adventure.

The Outer Worlds 2 brings back everything gamers liked about the original and makes it all feel sharper and more confident. The writing lands, the choices matter, and the world has more personality without going overboard. Combat is smoother and exploration feels more rewarding, especially once you find your rhythm. It is a sequel that does not chase something bigger. It just does what it does best.

The Outer Worlds 2 tries to be a great space RPG, but falls by the wayside. It has good ideas, lots of freedom and fun moments, but the story is confusing and the world feels empty. It's a game full of potential, but which never really lives up to it. An RPG that wanted to be a shooter, or maybe the other way around?

The Outer Worlds 2 is a bigger and more ambitious sequel, with elements that significantly improve on the already appealing formula of the first instalment. There are many stories, many possibilities, and many opportunities to tackle an impressive and highly entertaining RPG; however, it is a shame about the many issues plaguing the PS5 version, with bugs and crashes that risk compromising the adventure.
