NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound Reviews
If you're wondering whether 2025 is the year of the ninja, Ragebound leads us to say yes. The Game Kitchen has put its expertise into a series that was in dire need of renewal, at least in 2D. The new features add a little something extra without distorting what we already knew. The combat is wonderful, as is the soundtrack. And the price is more than reasonable for an approximate playtime of 8 hours. In short, we're more than satisfied and can't wait to see what Ninja Gaiden 4 has in store for us.

Ninja Gaiden Ragebound does a great job in pretty much all the necessary aspects and delivers not only a worthy successor to Ryu Hayabusa's legendary NES trilogy, but also one of the best 2D games in recent years for fans of action [games]. It's, thus, a shame that the Nintendo version is below expectations; taking into account its general qualities, Kenji's and Kumori's fun adventure deserved better than the performance issues on Big N's two consoles. As a result, in its current state, there are better ways to save the world than becoming a ninja on Switch.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a gritty return that stays true to the spirit of the saga, with gameplay that tests the player’s reflexes and precision. Although the story is fairly simple and having to complete a level in one go can be a bit frustrating, the game makes up for it with meticulously crafted pixel art, smooth animations, and a soundtrack that cleverly blends metal with traditional Japanese sounds.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound proves to be not only an excellent 2D side-scrolling action-platformer with engaging gameplay and high-quality ‘90s-inspired visuals, but also a strong spin-off that fits neatly into Ryu Hayabusa’s saga. Greater variety and better difficulty balance could have elevated it further, yet it remains a highly recommended experience for fans of the series and the genre.

2D Ninja Gaiden is back, and it’s easily the best it’s ever been. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a statement of love for what feels like the whole series, made by people who’ve clearly loved it for a long time. Gameplay feels smooth, impactful, and fast-paced while also keeping to the high skill ceiling that’s always defined it. I can see myself playing it for a long time simply because I’ve yet to get the coveted S++ Ranks on all stages, and it’s always fun enough that the grind itself is enjoyable. Combine this with a silky smooth aesthetic and one of my favorite soundtracks of 2025, and you’ve got a game that I am confident is the best platformer of the year
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a love letter to the original 2D action series featuring Ryu Hayabusa. The Game Kitchen has demonstrated its expertise by creating a virtually flawless title.

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound is a fantastic 2D title that honors the franchise's legacy. The game could easily be considered the fourth installment in the classic saga, blending the fast-paced, challenging gameplay of the originals with the frenetic, master-friendly action of the 3D titles. Combining the best of both worlds, the title is excellent and highly recommended for those seeking a high-quality ninja experience.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a focused 2D action title from The Game Kitchen and Dotemu. Tight swordplay and the guillotine jump form the core of combat, while Kumori’s pact adds ranged moves and a screen-clearing Ragebound attack. Boss fights demand full use of your kit, and altars let Kumori run timed platform trials that test timing. Collectibles such as skulls and scarabs feed a talisman shop and a rank system that rewards replay. Pixel art and a rock-cinematic soundtrack back the action, and cutscenes are polished. With its solid run time, the game offers an exceptional mix of challenge and accessibility.
If you're looking for an explosive, fun and challenging hack 'n' slash/platformer, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will not disappoint.
The Game Kitchen shines with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a challenging 2D platform adventure that combines the classic with the modern, keeping the spirit of the series intact. It knows how to combine the classic with the modern and bring the spirit of a series whose origins date back to the 1980s into 2025. The speed and vertigo of the gameplay, emphasized by a wonderful soundtrack, is a clear invitation to jump and swing your sword, as well as enjoy an original story.

I don’t think it’s even a hyperbole or a controversy to state that Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is the best 2D Ninja Gaiden ever made. With the exception of the occasionally tough roadblock in the shape of a challenging boss battle, as well as very occasionally cheap custscenes, this is just fantastic. It’s a lot more balanced, more polished, more enjoyable than any of its side-scrolling predecessors. And the best part about it all, it’s not even the last Ninja Gaiden we’re getting this year.
