Tormented Souls 2 Reviews
Tormented Souls 2 gets the visuals right, but loses its soul. The title is still a good classic survival horror experience, and despite significant technical advancements, the script falters, and the story degenerates into something more generic until its final minutes.

Tormented Souls 2 is a game that doesn't reinvent the formula, but rather improves on the existing roadmap. It's everything you'd expect from a survival horror experience; from the deep, layered exploration and creative puzzle-solving to the immersive atmosphere and natural horror, all working together like a machine in harmony.

Tormented Souls 2, like its predecessor, offers some solid survival horror action inspired by classics of the genre. Some might find dealing with or avoiding enemies a bit frustrating at times though, and a number of its puzzles could be considered a little too obtuse for comfort.
Dual Effect repeats its success and surpasses the original game's 2021 release with Tormented Souls 2.

Capturing the magic of a PS1-era horror game while featuring decent visuals really paid off for Tormented Souls 2 as it's one great game. 🕯️
If you’ve been looking for a title to fill those cold, dark Halloween nights—without necessarily having to revisit the good old classics—Tormented Souls 2 should satisfy your craving. It is a game crafted for a specific audience, fully grasping the structures and elements that make survival horror titles—with their tank controls and fixed camera angles—so special, and executing them in a way that is sure to delight fans of spine-chilling experiences.

I waited a long time for Tormented Souls 2 and it did not disappoint. Yes, there’s nothing particularly original and/or innovative compared to the original, and yes, some of the game design felt a bit arbitrary, but as long as Duel Effect keeps making these games, I’ll keep buying ‘em. They know exactly what survival horror fans want to see, and they’re not afraid to dish it up in the most predictable way possible, but I, for one, love them for it.
Tormented Souls II embraces its inspirations, delivering an experience reminiscent of a modernized Resident Evil, with creative puzzles, challenging riddles, and a strong sense of identity that surpasses its predecessor. For fans of classic survival horror, Caroline Walker’s journey offers tense combat where every bullet counts, intricate environments, resource management, an absurd yet engaging narrative, and an effective soundtrack. More than a nostalgic trip, it proves that classic horror is still alive, reminding players that sometimes the best way to survive is to think twice before pulling the trigger.

If you have any love for classic, fixed-camera survival horror with tank (or not) controls and devious puzzles, Tormented Souls 2 is an absolute must-buy on the Switch 2.
Tormented Souls 2 delivers a bloody good dose of old-school survival horror, with clever puzzles, boss fights that make you think, and creepy environments backed by equally unsettling sound. The controls take some getting used to, and the voice acting can be a little stiff-sounding, but Caroline’s determination to help Anna gives you a reason to keep pushing through the nightmare.
While I applaud the developers once again going for a modern game with clear classic Resident Evil influences, to a degree some elements blow up in their faces
Tormented Souls 2 delivers a worthy sequel, transporting us back to the golden era of survival horror with a distinct flavor reminiscent of the original PSX Resident Evil trilogy. Caroline must rescue her sister Anna and escape a nightmarish setting while solving intricate puzzles and uncovering the dark truth concealed beneath the monastery where she is trapped.

Tormented Souls II is a sequel that expands and refines practically every aspect of the first chapter, offering a decidedly enjoyable and appreciable experience, despite not being able to completely surpass it.

Tormented Souls 2 lives up to expectations, and the developers’ decision to once again embrace the old-school gameplay style of the original Resident Evil proved to be the right choice.

Tormented Souls 2 is a game that revives the spirit of classic horror games with modern touches. With its fixed camera angles and dark atmosphere, it creates a nostalgic vibe. While the pace slows down in some places, it remains consistent throughout the game. Tormented Souls 2 is neither perfect nor a disappointment; however, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable return to form for fans of old-school horror.

Unfortunately, my fear has become reality. Where the first game was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2021 for me, Tormented Souls 2 is perhaps the biggest disappointment of 2025. Although the game builds on the solid foundation of the first part, a poor gameplay balance and technical deblets kill the game. The PC version was clearly not yet ready to be launched. Chances are that I will give Tormented Souls 2 a second chance at a later date. Hopefully by then I won't have to be afraid of losing my progress.

Tormented Souls 2 seems to be a title created by people who love what they do and have grown up with the games they essentially pay tribute to, striving to keep their legacy alive.

Modern games often avoid frustration or challenge, favoring instant gratification, but Tormented Souls 2 shows that fear, tension, and difficult mechanics make the experience rewarding. It delivers everything fans loved from classic horror with modern improvements and new mechanics. Despite some story and difficulty issues, it offers a unique horror experience worth trying, perfect for both fans and newcomers to the genre.

Is Tormented Souls 2 the perfect game? Absolutely not. The beginning months of its release were a little rocky, technologically speaking, in terms of game-halting bugs and occasional awkward camera transitions, etc. Does that make it terrible? Not in the slightest. TS2 was a great horror experience that I got willingly sunk and immersed into for sometimes hours at a time.
Dual Effect has delivered a title that doesn’t try to please everyone, but instead confidently says, “This is for you - veterans who survived the PlayStation 1 era.” Tormented Souls 2 is not just a tribute to its inspirations; it’s proof that small developers can create experiences that stand shoulder to shoulder with the genre’s undisputed giants.
