As a long-time fan, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection feels like the ultimate compilation. Revisiting Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, one of my personal favorites, scratched that nostalgia itch in all the right ways. Unfortunately, noticeable audio issues and input lag do mar the experience.

An amazing documentary with a good selection of games that could use some further tweaking.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is the most polarising Digital Eclipse museum experience so far, in terms of the quality of the games that are in it to play, I also think that it’s one of the most compelling experiences from a historical perspective.

The sheer number of games included in tandem with their now trademark storytelling approach makes this an easy recommend for me. While not every game here is a winner, the documentary portion once again steals the show.

In the state that the game currently sits, it is a hard justification to dive into if you already own the titles on other systems. But if you are a newer fan or want to enjoy it on modern systems, it’s the best option.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Mortal Kombat, or you are just getting into the series via its modern versions, Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is a great way to experience the series’ formative era on modern platforms. It isn’t a complete collection, but it does hit all the landmark titles of the series’ growing phase.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is not only a great round-up of the franchise's earliest hits, it’s also a tremendous history lesson on the building of a fighting game franchise that remains influential today. I do wish the compilation covered more of the noticeable gaps in time toward the end, and that there were further efforts to tweak the tuning of some infamously imbalanced enemy AI.

With classic games and a heartfelt documentary, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection continues to show that there's nobody better at this type of compilation than Digital Eclipse. Whether you're an old-school fighter or want to teach your kids what MK looked like in the old days, this is the best way to do it.

While the greedy fan in me pines for the franchise’s later PS2 era to receive similar treatment in future (please give us that Shaolin Monks remaster, Ed), Legacy Kollection excels in paying admirable respect to its namesake, the legacy of Mortal Kombat, with a varied and exhaustive mixture of titles.

An agonisingly in-depth archive of Mortal Kombat's importance to the industry, this is the kind of kompilation the franchise has always deserved. While its absent online features do put a small dampener on the bundle at launch, the sheer scale of this kollection and the quality of its supplementary materials make it a must buy – even for kurious passers-by who may find themselves discovering the franchise for the first time.

The MK Legacy Kollection is a dream come true for me. Growing up with MK from the beginning this hit all the right nostalgia notes. MK is easily one of my favorite gaming franchises and have been a fan for over 30 years and will likely be playing it until my hands no longer work. Digital Eclipse understood the assignment and aced it.

Another home run for those wizards at Digital Eclipse whom I hope will never stop weaving their game preservation magic, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection isn't just a pitch-perfect trip down memory lane, it's a love letter, a tantalising peeling back of the curtain, a look behind the scenes of one of the most legendary and landmark videogame franchises ever made. If you have even the smallest modicum of fondness for gaming's original bad boy, then the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is as essential as essential can be.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is an absolutely incredible collection of the classic games with some great quality of life features added to them. The documentary is a fascinating look into the history of the Mortal Kombat team and the development of the series. It's a shame that the online features are barebones as of now, but I think for old school Mortal Kombat fans, this collection is a dream come true and has personally reignited my love for this franchise.
