Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is more than a remaster. It’s proof that some classics truly are timeless. From its incredible story of betrayal and ambition, to its deep job system, monster recruitment, and improved quality of life, this is the definitive way to experience Ivalice. While the missing War of the Lions content and minor UI quirks may raise eyebrows, none of that overshadows the brilliance at the heart of this game. Tactical RPGs don’t get much better than this.
A classic made even better, Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles strongly feels like the epitome of its series, bringing in the best of nostalgia and the present time together in one game. With its compelling story made even more captivating with the addition of voice acting and engaging gameplay, it will surely be a favorite for even more gamers, thirty years later.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is the definitive edition of a classic. I would even go so far as to call it the gold standard for strategy RPGs. The story is riveting, the voice acting superb, the artwork stunning, and the job system lets me create virtually any type of character I want. Some battles are tough, but with the new difficulty settings they are challenging without becoming overwhelming. For anyone curious about trying a tactical RPG, there is no better place to start. And for veterans, the addition of voice acting adds so much depth that it makes the story feel fresh, new, and absolutely worth experiencing again.

Even in 2025, Final Fantasy Tactics remains a monument to game design and storytelling. The morally ambivalent story about class struggle and religious fanaticism has lost none of its relevance. The job system offers a depth that even modern games rarely achieve, and the tactical battles are both challenging and rewarding in equal measure.

After nearly 30 years, Final Fantasy Tactics remains a timeless classic. Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles knocks the rust off the original, shines it up like new, and makes lots of subtle changes that only enhance the classic. And if you want a version without any changes, that’s here too, just as grainy as you remember. I couldn’t have hoped for more.

The gameplay is a bit rough around the edges, particularly in difficulty and class balancing, but everything holds up remarkably well. More importantly, the story and themes of Final Fantasy Tactics have aged like fine wine, and the voice acting does wonders at fully fleshing out and finally bringing this classic tale to modern audiences.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is a beautiful reimagining of a tactical classic. For nostalgic fans, there's the original version, but the Enhanced Edition is the one you'll want to play. With improved visuals, voice acting, and modern extras, there's no excuse not to try this classic. The downsides are minor (ultrawide doesn't work and sometimes a character disappears behind a rock). But they're offset by a mature story, a deep tactical system, and an epic gameplay experience that can keep you entertained for weeks. And as someone discovering the game for the first time, I can say that with this reissue, Square Enix has not only satisfied fans but also a new generation of players.
