When Pragmata works well, it creates times that feel truly different—moments when handling two systems at once is easy, and everything fits together perfectly. That level of excitement isn't always there, but it's there enough of the time to make a mark. This genre doesn't change the genre, but it shows that new ideas can still be added to it.
'Pragmata' is another in a long line of recent heaters from Capcom, and it might be my personal favorite of the bunch, thanks to inventive combat and an adorable pair of protagonists.
Pragmata made me fall in love with its fun combat system based on hacking minigames and the adorable 'father-daughter' relationship between Hugh and Diana. It's true that all its other gameplay and narrative elements are very traditional and unoriginal, but this game makes excellent use of its strengths and will undoubtedly be considered one of the best of the year.

After playing out Pragmata I can't help but give this game the maximum score. It's one of the best single player games I've played in recent years. Apart from the nitpicking about backtracking and the slightly too easy enemies, I really can't say anything negative about this game. What started as a mysterious game that I had many question marks about has ended in an unforgettable, poignant and extremely surprising experience. With Pragmata, Capcom proves that in 2026 it is perfectly possible to bring new IPs to the market and that occasionally taking a risk is part of developing video games.

I don’t know that we will ever get more of these games, but I think that’s fine, because what’s here is going to endure as an interesting experiment. If anything, the boldness of pairing this game next to a decidedly safe mainline Resident Evil title says to me that Capcom is confident that the weird still has a place next to the secure. Pragmata is a game that I think some people are really going to love and some people are going to completely bounce off of, but those are the kinds of games that you still talk about in ten years.
It's hard to believe that Pragmata is coming off the success of Resident Evil Requiem and somehow rivals that game to the same degree of excellence. Even with some repetitive aspects in its structure, every element feels on point. The journey home is emotional and exciting, keeping players engaged from the beginning.
Pragmata is Capcom firing on all cylinders with a brand-new IP that has no business being this good. Its dual hacking-and-shooting system turns every encounter into a frantic, deeply satisfying puzzle that rewards both reflexes and brainpower. Hugh and Diana form a duo that earns genuine emotional investment despite a predictable plot and a forgettable villain. The RE Engine delivers stunning visuals and rock-solid PC performance, and the bite-sized campaign begs to be replayed the moment credits roll. It's short, it's linear, and it's one of the best action games of 2026.

Pragmata is one of the strongest releases of the year. It melds mechanics that are rarely combined and does so expertly. When you are able to smoothly hack enemies while also navigating a dynamic battlefield in real-time, it can make you feel like a multi-tasking genius. The entertainingly bizarre story also has heart-warming moments, while the gorgeous visuals of the beautiful Lunar sci-fi world, Capcom keeps you guessing with what new, incredible biome you’re going to be exploring next as you defeat a section’s boss. Soulslike veterans, or even just action game players in general, will probably find the Standard difficulty mode a bit too easy, but when the core game loop is this fun, I don’t think it really matters. Capcom is on a roll in 2026, and the trend has continued with Pragmata unabated.

Pragmata is exactly the kind of sci-fi game I’ve been waiting for. It values its characters just as much as the shooting. Capcom found a way to make the mix of heavy gunplay and real-time hacking matter. I never sensed I was just going through the motions. The story takes its time to get moving. However, watching Hugh and Diana’s relationship grow kept me interested through the weirder moments. It is one of the best reasons to own a Nintendo Switch 2 since the console arrived last year.
Pragmata looks like a game straight out of the PS3 era, with that Japanese energy that amazed generations. Once abundant, this ingenuity seems close to extinction and only resurfaces on rare occasions. This is one of them, where the main objective is to entertain the player and make them feel energized by the experience.

Pragmata proves that when something takes time, it's because you want to do it right. Capcom has succeeded in the challenging task of bringing a new IP to market with fun and deep gameplay (once mastered). Despite a few minor flaws, including less-than-inspired missions and questionable checkpoint management, the Osaka-based studio's latest effort is worth picking up for TPS fans and those looking to experiment with something different and with innovative mechanics.

I don't give out perfect scores lightly, and I mulled over this for some time, but there was almost no part of PRAGMATA I disliked. The story had emotional weight and surprised me with its twists, and the combination of puzzle and action in real-time made fights engaging, and the temporary weapons continually made combat feel dynamic. The simple progression was enjoyable, and I felt that every single collectible I could find held meaning that made me more powerful. This is a must-have game. I even went back in to 100% it, which is not something I tend to do, and it's a testament to how much I enjoyed playing. And even though there are some compromises, the game is wonderful on the Steam Deck. I had such a blast playing through on the go, even if I couldn’t hit 60 FPS. Thankfully, the RE Engine pulls its weight and keeps the game looking fantastic and optimized.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Pragmata. Capcom created a very interesting Sci-Fi dystopia that I wish were more explored in the game's main narrative. Combat is great, if a little overwhelming, with some amazing set pieces that really make the most out of its system mechanics. If you're one to support new IPs, now's the time to show Capcom you want more than Resident Evil or Monster Hunter from them.
