Emotional, intense, and fast-paced—these three words best describe my experience with Pragmata. The credits roll a few hours early, but ultimately, I was pleasantly surprised by the character relationships and the excellent combat system. Capcom has another great IP on its hands, but will it want to develop it further? A lot probably depends on sales.

While they have been going back to the well and redefining a lot of their long-running series, it makes sense that Pragmata stands on its own. It is a fresh idea honed to near perfection and I would love to see what else this team can do. Whether you're playing on Switch 2 or any other system, Pragmata is a great time.

Capcom has taken a gamble with Pragmata, blending together multiple genres to create something that feels fresh and unique. At the heart of it is hacking-infused third-person shooter combat, which remains engaging and exciting throughout. And when paired with a story that tugs on the heartstrings, the result is something rather special. Ultimately, Pragmata is not only game of the year material, but also one of the most exciting new IPs in recent years.

Pragmata is a great Capcom game with a good story and unusual, yet very functional gameplay. The length is ideal in some ways, and there are many extras to enjoy. In the end, the only criticism is that the game as a whole becomes repetitive in combat after you get the hang of it.

With its eye-catching graphics and heartwarming story, Pragmata offers a truly delightful experience. The tension that the hacking mechanic brings to the combat, in particular, has a very unique feel to it... I’m really happy with where Capcom is at right now.

Was the wait worth it? Mostly yes, as the aesthetics and mechanics are solid and refreshing enough. The game only falters towards the end, feeling rushed, while the story which was never strong, ends up even more cliched.

Pragmata goes all-in with a unique gameplay approach-and it pays off. At first, it's challenging to balance the two major systems it introduces, but over time, this hybrid combat system has really won me over. That, combined with the character portrayals and the story of its two protagonists, makes Pragmata one of the must-play games of the year so far.

Pragmata is a triumphant survival-action debut that effortlessly balances high-concept sci-fi with a deeply resonant emotional core. While its narrative occasionally drifts into familiar genre tropes, the innovative "hack-and-shoot" synergy between Hugh and Diana creates a rhythmic, tactical combat loop that feels entirely fresh. With stunning RE Engine visuals and a focused, rewarding progression, Capcom has successfully transformed a period of development uncertainty into one of the most inventive and polished new IPs of the year.

Pragmata is exactly the kind of sci-fi game I’ve been waiting for. It values its characters just as much as the shooting. Capcom found a way to make the mix of heavy gunplay and real-time hacking matter. I never sensed I was just going through the motions. The story takes its time to get moving. However, watching Hugh and Diana’s relationship grow kept me interested through the weirder moments. It is one of the best reasons to own a Nintendo Switch 2 since the console arrived last year.

Pragmata looks like a game straight out of the PS3 era, with that Japanese energy that amazed generations. Once abundant, this ingenuity seems close to extinction and only resurfaces on rare occasions. This is one of them, where the main objective is to entertain the player and make them feel energized by the experience.

Pragmata proves that when something takes time, it's because you want to do it right. Capcom has succeeded in the challenging task of bringing a new IP to market with fun and deep gameplay (once mastered). Despite a few minor flaws, including less-than-inspired missions and questionable checkpoint management, the Osaka-based studio's latest effort is worth picking up for TPS fans and those looking to experiment with something different and with innovative mechanics.

I don't give out perfect scores lightly, and I mulled over this for some time, but there was almost no part of PRAGMATA I disliked. The story had emotional weight and surprised me with its twists, and the combination of puzzle and action in real-time made fights engaging, and the temporary weapons continually made combat feel dynamic. The simple progression was enjoyable, and I felt that every single collectible I could find held meaning that made me more powerful. This is a must-have game. I even went back in to 100% it, which is not something I tend to do, and it's a testament to how much I enjoyed playing. And even though there are some compromises, the game is wonderful on the Steam Deck. I had such a blast playing through on the go, even if I couldn’t hit 60 FPS. Thankfully, the RE Engine pulls its weight and keeps the game looking fantastic and optimized.

Pragmata dares to be different and commits to it from start to finish. Its blend of action and hacking creates something that feels fresh and surprisingly natural once it clicks. Combine that with memorable characters and plenty of hidden secrets, and you’re in for a wild ride. It’s not flawless, but it’s one of the most original and engaging games I’ve played in a long time.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Pragmata. Capcom created a very interesting Sci-Fi dystopia that I wish were more explored in the game's main narrative. Combat is great, if a little overwhelming, with some amazing set pieces that really make the most out of its system mechanics. If you're one to support new IPs, now's the time to show Capcom you want more than Resident Evil or Monster Hunter from them.

Pragmata presents creative ideas, particularly in how it blends shooting and real-time hacking to create intense, attention-demanding moments. The relationship between Hugh and Diana adds charm and helps sustain interest, even when the story leans on familiar sci-fi elements. Combat, especially in chaotic encounters, is exciting thanks to a solid variety of enemies and tactical options. Despite some noticeable limitations, such as repetition and a more guided structure, the game remains engaging due to its consistent pacing, well-crafted world, and unique concept, ultimately standing out as a distinctive experience that may not fully reach its potential but still delivers a memorable adventure.

Pragmata is a powerful new IP, solid in every respect and capable of laying the groundwork for a major new franchise. The game successfully blends fast-paced, multi-layered action with an intimate and moving narrative. Exploring the Cradle alongside Diana, alternating between intense firefights and hacking sequences, is a fun and engaging experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s a title that rewards tactical intelligence as much as reflexes, wrapped in technical prowess that showcases the power of current-gen consoles. Another plus is that the game is released at a budget price, retailing at the recommended price of €59.99. Pragmata isn’t just a great game; it’s proof that taking the time to refine an artistic vision always pays off. If you love sci-fi, stories of deep connections, and high-quality action gameplay, Pragmata is a must-buy that will keep you glued to the screen from start to finish.
