MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls surrounds its 4v4 team battles with story content, training tools, alternate modes, and online play. Its biggest strength is how quickly the combat becomes understandable before assists, team building, and traditional commands add more to learn. Full-team fights can become harder to follow, and I would've liked more stages. If you want a Marvel fighter that lets you start having fun quickly and then rewards the time you spend learning a four-character squad, this is a great one to dig into.
With a highly creative roster and phenomenal visual flair, Tokon delivers a deeply satisfying fighting game experience. Arc System Works introduces clever tweaks to the tag-fighter formula, offering great and strategic depth without demanding grueling execution. It's a fantastic Marvel brawler that just needs its netcode ironed out.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls comes pretty close to hitting the bullseye for me. It is absolutely stunning from an audiovisual standpoint, while its story mode is also top-notch in terms of both writing and style, despite its repetition in different episodes. Its mechanics are engaging and fun, but the game is also fairly complex and consequently rather frantic – fortunately, there are plenty of incentives to learn its intricacies. And no, this certainly isn’t Marvel vs. Capcom, but then again, it doesn’t need to be.

It’s rare when a fighting game manages to tick virtually every box, from excellent fighting mechanics to fantastic teaching tools to a worthwhile story mode and beyond, but Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls comes about as close as a game has gotten since Street Fighter 6.
Its gorgeous style, incredible roster, and genuine evolution of the tag-fighting genre make me confident in finally being able to crown 2026's best fighting game.

Marvel heroes and villains are once again beating each other up in tag-based battles, and I am loving the experience of jumping in and figuring out new strategies. Rather than lean on old tropes, Arc System Works elected to put its own spin on the idea, and what they’ve cooked up sets a new bar for future tag fighters.
