Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf definitely builds upon the strengths of its predecessor in every aspect: it offers greater variety in level design, more diverse puzzles and a beautiful game world. Aside from the brief sections where you control Mui alone via the cursor, the controls and gameplay are seamless and never overuse the various ideas. The underwater sections and other elements add verticality to the world, making it appear much larger, while the paths are never so intricate that you could get lost. Let's hope there's a third part coming in the foreseeable future.

Planet of Lana II is a textbook sequel. It takes the solid foundation of the original, tightens the gameplay, and deepens the lore in really meaningful ways. It answers lingering questions about Novo’s mysterious past while asking tough questions about its future. With tighter controls, brilliant new mechanics, and jaw-dropping art direction, it is a stunning, emotional, and thoroughly entertaining experience from start to finish. I absolutely recommend it.

Less than 3 years later, Wishfully Studios have given players the chance to return to the gorgeous Planet Novo and the wonderful universe of Planet of Lana with a sequel that expands on the original in nearly every conceivable way, for better or worse. The scale is bigger, the world feels more diverse, the gameplay has expanded, the puzzles have more complexity, the environments are somehow more beautiful and even the lovable companion Mui has a much greater role. Wishfully set the bar high with their debut and while the sequel fails to leave the same impact due to inconsistent pacing and supporting characters that didn’t resonate, Planet of Lana 2 is a fantastic puzzle platformer that outdoes the original in many ways.

"Confident Expansion and Remarkable Maturity" Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf represents a deliberate leap forward compared to the first installment, with an expanded world and deeper mechanics without losing its cinematic identity. The puzzles are more intelligent and demanding, the environments more varied, and the narrative more mature. Technical and artistic improvements support this new ambition, making the experience feel more complete and confident. The sequel is poised to surpass its predecessor and establish itself as one of the most prominent modern cinematic puzzle titles.

Successfully building upon the first game in every way, Planet of Lana 2 delivers a fascinating and sometimes emotional experience heightened by stunning visual and sound design. The time taken to explore Mui’s backstory and the machine's connection to the world in general is such a welcome addition and only aids in making this feel like more than just a platform game. Fans of the original and newcomers alike will have one heck of a ride, and I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
