Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a brilliant remake that modernizes one of the franchise’s best entries without losing what made it special. With stronger stealth, improved mission design, stunning visuals, excellent PC performance, and an even better pirate fantasy, this is easily the definitive way to experience Edward Kenway’s adventure.
This is perhaps the best Assassin’s Creed game I’ve ever played. Black Flag, whilst a game with a vast, open world, still holds onto what the series once stood for. It holds onto its character. Because of this, I didn’t even mind the flaws all that much – the ones I’d subconsciously linked to that old, well-worn and much-loved Assassin’s Creed series. With Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft has brought out the very best in the game, reminding us once again why this series became so popular.

I have no major complaints with Black Flag Resynced; it's a faithful remake of what is undoubtedly a fantastic game, one that is lauded by many to be one of the best ever made. I don't love it, though, and I can't put my finger on exactly why. It's undeniably a great-looking rendition of Black Flag, and it plays and sounds perfectly fine.
Black Flag's narrative was always strong, focusing on Edward's journey to freedom and the losses he has to bear while exploring every nook and cranny of the Caribbean Sea. The remake doesn't change that, instead fleshing out the story with meaningful additions. Besides parkour, it doesn't fix what wasn't broken in the first place. Black Flag was, and will remain with the new version, one of the strongest Assassin's Creed titles in the franchise.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced still feels as rich, smooth, and memorable as it did at its best. Nearly every part of the game gains some worthwhile new elements, adding a meaningful sense of scale and depth to the experience. Its main drawback is also a familiar one: a variety of bugs can still appear midway through the game, which may simply be an unavoidable part of the Ubisoft experience.

It is perhaps (and this isn’t meant harshly) not essential gaming in 2026. There is a stipulation on this comment, however, that rests somewhere on a sliding scale of whether or not someone has played the original back in the day or not. For a fan of the original, it’s a pleasure to revisit its characters and world and it will be surprising to them just how much variety of content there was that is now carried over into a much shinier remake. It doesn’t dare to push toward any new ground. The question it asks, though, is does it have to? What Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced does do, and what Ubisoft has generally been good at creating over the years, is the perfect casual experience, and it is hitherto priced as such.
One of the best games in the franchise receives an impeccable treatment. With stunning visuals and technical brilliance, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced already stands as one of the best remakes ever made and a necessary modernization that we hope to see in more games in the future.
