Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced Reviews
It is perhaps (and this isn’t meant harshly) not essential gaming in 2026. There is a stipulation on this comment, however, that rests somewhere on a sliding scale of whether or not someone has played the original back in the day or not. For a fan of the original, it’s a pleasure to revisit its characters and world and it will be surprising to them just how much variety of content there was that is now carried over into a much shinier remake. It doesn’t dare to push toward any new ground. The question it asks, though, is does it have to? What Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced does do, and what Ubisoft has generally been good at creating over the years, is the perfect casual experience, and it is hitherto priced as such.
One of the best games in the franchise receives an impeccable treatment. With stunning visuals and technical brilliance, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced already stands as one of the best remakes ever made and a necessary modernization that we hope to see in more games in the future.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is simply a decent game, but – in my opinion – it lacks that certain something found in the latest instalments of the series. The changes to both land and sea combat make for a brilliant experience in the first dozen or so hours of play, but ultimately it very quickly becomes rather monotonous.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced is much more than a visual remake. It brings one of the best entries in the series into the modern Assassin's Creed era with improved visuals, controls, stealth, combat, naval battles and expanded content, while preserving the pirate freedom, Caribbean atmosphere and strong exploration that made the original so memorable. It is only held back by the lack of a proper skill system for Edward, as perks and trinkets do not fully replace deeper character progression.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is a good but very safe remake. I still had a shocking amount of fun just sailing around and doing pirate things on the wide ocean, but the game lacks a certain confidence, and that keeps it from being a truly exceptional remake. It's a great way to revisit Edward's adventures with fewer rough patches, better graphics, and some extra content. Fans of the original will have a grand old time.
Overall, Ubisoft has done an excellent job reamking one of the best entries in the Assassin's Creed series. Everything that made the original so memorable has been preserved, while a host of thoughtful improvements make it more enjoyable than ever. If you've been longing for the days when Assassin's Creed was at the peak of its popularity, or if you've always wanted to see why the franchise's older titles are still so beloved, Black Flag Resynced is an experience you absolutely shouldn't miss—even if it still carries over a few shortcomings, such as its dated AI.

Thirteen years later, Edward Kenway’s story still stands among Ubisoft’s finest, the Caribbean remains one of the most inviting worlds the series has ever created, and sailing the Jackdaw across open waters is somehow just as difficult to put down as it was the first time. That isn’t just because Black Flag was ahead of its time. It’s because some adventures simply deserve another voyage.
Thirteen years later, Black Flag still proves what was already clear back in 2013: it's a far better pirate adventure than it is a traditional Assassin's Creed, and that's arguably its greatest strength. Resynced improves almost every aspect of the original, adds a fair amount of new content, and makes exploring the Caribbean more immersive than ever. Technical issues and a handful of questionable design decisions keep it from reaching true greatness, but it's still an solid remake and one of Ubisoft's strongest releases in recent years, delivering dozens of engaging hours on the high seas.

The changes it introduces are necessary, and the visual overhaul will leave fans speechless, especially if they decide to take the plunge underwater. Ubisoft have approached this remake the right way, trimming the weaker parts and introducing changes that make for a much better overall experience. It harks back to the prebloat of more recent Assassins Creed games, a more streamlined game.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a very good remake of the original Black Flag. They took what worked from the original and recreated it with some of the most beautiful visuals of the year. The new combat is fun, if a little janky, and I hope they refine it in future games. While the side content was a bit of a letdown, and the small modern-day sections left me wanting more, I still had a blast playing this game. This is the best Assassin’s Creed game they’ve made in a hot minute, and I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of whether you played the original or not.
In a year crowded with remakes that only polish the screenshot, Resynced does the harder thing. It rebuilds the toy without breaking the spell. The graphics leap is massive. The combat is more demanding, if not fully elegant. The sailing is still the best argument the series has ever made for itself. Come for the ray-traced water. Stay because the Jackdaw still feels like home.
More than a decade later, Black Flag remains one of the strongest entries in the series and this remake brings it bang up to date for a modern audience.
For Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a fairly safe remake in every respect - one that's sure to delight fans of the original and offers newcomers a great chance to play one of the best and most popular entries in the series. Still, upon closer inspection, there are plenty of areas for improvement and a few baffling decisions that drag the remake down. Not all the way to the bottom, but enough that we don't feel entirely satisfied with every aspect of it.
