A Star Fox 64 remake might not be the most exciting thing to some of the fans of the franchise; however, after years of absence, Star Fox needed an experience to remind players what made it one of Nintendo's standout classic series. And the remake succeeded in doing just that by giving us a thoroughly enjoyable rail-shooter adventure. With a focus on the story and characters, alongside an iconic orchestral soundtrack, making it the ideal launchpad to bring Star Fox back into the spotlight.

This is how a remake is done. With reverence to the original, Star Fox does a masterful job keeping close to the source material. With a new coat of paint this game soars!
If Star Fox is intended to be a soft-reboot for an entire fleet of new games, it does the job well, and earns its place in the Nintendo Switch 2 library.
In the end, I'm naturally drawn to compare the work done here to what Nintendo gave us not too many years ago with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, because in that case too a game was taken and recreated one to one, limited to a few quality-of-life tweaks, a refreshed visual department, and a revised soundtrack. The parallel feels apt to me, because it captures precisely the spirit of this Star Fox, namely absolute respect for the original and a desire to show it in the best possible light, without distorting its identity in any way. Bringing it all together at last, I feel comfortable defining Star Fox as a title that carries a heavy legacy on its shoulders and translates it into something appealing for a modern audience, while dragging along all the responsibilities that come with the territory. I know full well that it doesn't last long, and I can already picture the objections, yet it remains a game designed to be replayed, and from that standpoint I think it's fair to raise a few points with Velan, because one more level could have been added, perhaps drawing on the cut content from the original, which does exist, just as a brand-new solar system could have been included. Instead they chose the path of faithful treatment, executed flawlessly all the same and enriched by a masterful soundtrack that reinterprets the historic tracks with real taste. Still, there's a wish I carry with me as the review draws to a close, because I want to see Star Fox in something genuinely new, given that we've already seen the usual story of the team forced to stop Doctor Andross on countless occasions, considering that half the entries in the saga are remakes of the original. It's time to move forward, so I sincerely hope with all my heart that this is only the first stone laid on the road to new Star Fox games.

There is something special about Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, it tells a story we’ve already heard but it’s never been told quite like this. New cinematics, challenges and quality-of-life improvements had me repeatedly diving into the Lylat Wars to find every alternate path, every cutscene and of course, the game’s true ending. Long story short, Star Fox’s campaign is polished with a capital ‘P’.
Star Fox is back, and this remake perfectly understands the strengths of the original while perhaps overlooking its weaknesses. Those who played the original on the Nintendo 64 will find the action familiar, while new players, despite the somewhat awkward controls, will enjoy the characters and the adventure. Although it feels short, even with its replay value, it's a must-have for the Switch 2, and if you're in Latin America, you'll appreciate the excellent localization and voice acting.

Star Fox is a triumph of arcade design that feels right at home on the Switch 2, proving that classic formulas can still provide the most visceral thrills in modern gaming. While the multiplayer mode is more of a quick, fun distraction than a main course, the campaign offers a meaty, challenging adventure that will keep you coming back.
Star Fox is maybe exactly the revival the franchise needed: for fans of the original the title is a more than successful dose of nostalgia while simultaneously drawing newcomers into the Arwing with what is arguably the best title in the series. The remake looks fantastic, plays just as well as the original did back then and the successful multiplayer mode genuinely surprised me even if a few more maps would have been nice to have.

'Star Fox' can be described as a well-executed remake of a title 30 years ago. It faithfully preserves the gameplay of the original while enhancing its core fun through new elements and adding unprecedented enjoyment. However, given that the game employs somewhat outdated mechanics by today's standards, I believe it is inevitable that opinions on it will be somewhat divided.

As Star Fox, it’s the best there has ever been. The most hopeful part of me believes that Star Fox may only just be taking flight. If this is the form it will be in for the foreseeable future, then it may have been worth the decades of waiting to finally get it.
Star Fox on Switch 2 is exactly the remake most fans wanted without knowing how to put it into words — technically impressive, precisely targeted in gameplay, and with an audible respect for the original. Those who never played Star Fox 64 get one of the most accessible shooters in the Nintendo catalogue at its very best.

Star Fox is still a joy to play, even if the offering is very bare-bones. It's a nostalgia-heavy package, and that's both a blessing and a curse.
Star Fox remains a fast, addictive, and wonderfully replayable arcade shooter, now enhanced by charming cinematic cutscenes, excellent orchestral music, and a remarkably polished 60 FPS presentation on Switch 2. The lack of meaningful changes to the campaign makes this feel overly familiar for longtime fans, but for newcomers, it is easily the best way to discover the series.

I came away from Star Fox thoroughly impressed. As someone with no nostalgic connection to the series, I finally understand why so many people still talk about it decades later. The combination of satisfying aerial combat, memorable characters, gorgeous visual upgrades, excellent performance and rewarding replayability makes this an easy recommendation for both newcomers and returning fans alike.
By the time the credits rolled for the first time, I realized something that surprised me even more than the remake itself. I wasn’t thinking about the review anymore; I was thinking about Star Fox, and more specifically, how unfairly I’d judged the series over the years. I’ve always held Star Fox Adventures close to my heart because it represented such an important part of my childhood. In many ways, it was my entry point into the franchise rather than Star Fox 64. Revisiting Fox McCloud’s most celebrated adventure on Nintendo Switch 2 made me appreciate that connection even more. It also made me wonder whether I had been too dismissive of Star Fox Assault, a game I hadn’t thought about in years but suddenly found myself wanting to revisit with fresh eyes. Perhaps that’s the highest compliment I can pay this remake. It didn’t simply remind me why Star Fox 64 became one of Nintendo’s defining classics; it made me excited about Star Fox again. That may sound like a subtle distinction, but I believe it’s an important one. Great remakes preserve great games. Exceptional remakes reignite enthusiasm for entire franchises. After spending countless hours chasing medals, discovering alternate routes, and hearing Peppy remind me to “do a barrel roll” for what feels like the thousandth time, I found myself wanting more, not because this remake feels incomplete, but because it reminded me how much potential the series still possesses. If Nintendo’s intention was to determine whether Fox McCloud still has a place alongside Mario, Link, Samus, and Kirby on the Nintendo Switch 2, I sincerely hope it has found its answer. Because when I finished this remake, I didn’t immediately start another run through Corneria. I started hoping for a return to Dinosaur Planet. And that, perhaps more than anything else, proves just how successful this remake truly is.
Star Fox is simply a must-play for anyone with a Switch 2. Star Fox is back, and after this reboot, we can only hope that Nintendo finally gives us the true sequel to SF64 we’ve waited years for.
Unfortunately, as is often the case with many Nintendo titles, this online mode lacks a sense of progression . The matches are fun, especially when pitted against experienced teams, but with no real reward for winning, the whole thing feels like an end in itself.
