Star Fox puts a new coat of paint over a classic, and it's a grand return to form for the series.
Star Fox is exactly the comeback I was hoping to have in my hands. Nintendo didn't try to turn the series into something it was never meant to be. Instead, it chose to celebrate its identity, enriching it with modern production values, a more ambitious narrative, and top-tier audiovisual presentation.

Whether you are a veteran Arwing pilot or a complete newcomer finally ready to tackle Andross, this 2026 revival is an absolute must-play. Beautifully honouring its arcade roots while proving that some formulas truly are timeless, Team Star Fox is just as vital today as they were over three decades ago.
Whether this game is our appetizer before a brand-new Star Fox adventure, or simply a one-off tribute to the iconic series, it’s the best Star Fox ever, and I say that with no reservations.
Star Fox is a visual spectacle, a space opera on the Nintendo Switch 2, with Nintendo once again using the 1997 game as a base to showcase technical prowess. The Switch 2 release is a fitting tribute to the original, expanding on character lore and personality - bar a few watered down vocal lines. It is still a short campaign to the credits roll, but extra challenges, surpassingly enjoyable co-op, and fun multiplayer do add a hefty bit of replay value. The Lylat Region is in safe hands once more!
It has been expanded with unlockable challenges in addition to the unlockable expert difficulty from the original. My hope is that the multiplayer is able to maintain a reasonable crowd post-launch, and that perhaps content is added to flesh out what is a very promising mode. While I've been down this road before, Star Fox 2026 is the most confident I've ever felt that we may move past the realm of remasters, remakes, and reimaginings and into the wonderful world of sequels, built on this excellent foundation.
Ultimately, Star Fox’s single player mode IS a remake of a 30-year-old game, and that means that it’s more limited and short than modern players tend to expect.
A classic brought to life in a gorgeous and faithful fashion that preserves its replayable arcadey feel and its colorful cast of characters.

Star Fox successfully modernizes Nintendo's classic rail shooter formula without losing what made it special in the first place. Fast-paced combat, excellent replay value, strong presentation, and a surprisingly fun multiplayer mode make it one of the series' strongest entries. While the campaign could be longer and longtime fans may find the core experience very familiar, it's a confident and highly entertaining return for Fox McCloud and his team.

Star Fox is a successful remake of the legendary Nintendo game, which retains the excellent, fast-paced gameplay whilst adding new graphics, cinematic presentation and several interesting modes. However, the game still has limitations stemming from the structure of the original. Fans of the series will have a brilliant time, but those hoping for a fully-fledged new instalment may be left feeling somewhat unsatisfied.

A masterpiece it’s not, but by execution of the brief alone they’ve done an excellent job of modernising for a new audience. I think if you’ve played the classic version you’ll appreciate what’s on offer here. If you are brand new to the series you will absolutely feel a sense of gravitas and awe that this game is kind of a big deal. I don’t know if I will go back multiple times, as at 2 or 3 run throughs, I’m certainly content with the experience had.
The 'Star Fox' reboot for Switch 2 does what any good reboot ought to do: It demonstrates that the classic 'Star Fox' formula is still timeless while offering a look toward the suddenly-pretty-bright future of the series.
Star Fox brings Fox McCloud and the Arwing back in a fast-paced arcade shooter that gets better the more you replay it. The campaign is brief, but medals, hidden exits, alternate routes, teammate rescues, and better stage outcomes gave me a reason to keep improving instead of stopping at the credits. Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are interesting, though I preferred traditional controls because the Arwing felt better from the third-person view. Star Fox fans who enjoy short replayable missions should have a blast with it, and for newcomers this is a fantastic first flight in the Star Fox world.
Star Fox is arcade, direct, highly replayable, and incredibly fun. Its fast and precise Arwing combat, alternate routes, orchestral soundtrack, and excellent Latin American dub make this Switch 2 version a fantastic introduction to the series.

Star Fox brings the original story of this series back, as did Star Fox 64. It’s prettier and more polished, but if you’re not a multiplayer fan, there’s not much left to be desired over the classic.

This remake marks the return of an iconic and beloved series, aiming, thanks in part to its budget-friendly price, to win over both longtime fans and newcomers with its impressive cinematic art direction while faithfully recreating the original adventure without fundamentally altering its gameplay. Star Fox finally returns to the spotlight after an absence that felt far too long, reminding us just how much charm this series still has to offer. Whether this remake will serve as the definitive revival of Fox McCloud or remain a heartfelt tribute to the past is ultimately up to Nintendo. As for us, we can only hope that this is just the beginning.
