Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is an incredible game from a clearly talented studio. While I did not get into the previous two games in the series, I always recognized their quality. This one though, really connected with me, and I loved it from start to finish.

Asobo Studio has delivered a fantastic adventure, leagues ahead of A Plague Tale: Requiem, and a clear demonstration of how much the team has grown. Unique, story-driven single-player experiences like this don't come around nearly as often these days, so this isn't one to skip. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is absolutely worth playing.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes the series in a more combat-focused direction, and it pays off for the most part. This is a strong, cinematic blend of swordfights, puzzles, and parkour that still looks and feels a lot like A Plague Tale experience. A very slow start and a dreadful frame rate mar the third entry, though Resonance still comes out the other side a solid instalment.

Asobo returns to narrative excellence with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, crafting an action game that's both fluid and uniquely Plague Tale. Unfortunately, on PC, it's let down by some ugly performance issues that, while forgivable as a longtime fan, can break your immersion and, in some cases, force a restart. If you bear with them, though, Resonance is absolutely worth playing.

Asobo dared to depart from the traditional formula of the previous two installments, opting for something more action-oriented than stealth-focused, but without sacrificing the exceptional quality of the saga. This installment may be somewhat divisive, but I also believe it will bring many more people to the series.

"Resonance is the almost perfect sequel, building on the strengths of its predecessors and finally expanding them with good gameplay."

With Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Asobo Studio hasn't just added another major work to its catalog; it may well be its best game to date.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy could have been so much more. It could also have been so much less. It's a title that envelops you with its incredible atmosphere, flatters you with the quality of its cutscenes, enchants you with music reminiscent of Homeric myth, then after a few hours brings you back to reality with an almost too-stultifying structure.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a mystery from step one, filled with entertaining but not particularly difficult puzzles. It's a story worth experiencing.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is an agreeable set of straightforward action-adventure environments and gameplay to the point that it ends up feeling like a shadow of the emotionally devastating, narrative-driven stealth series that founded it. Fortunately, the stunning visuals and intricate designs of the island’s many landscapes, tremendous music, an engaging central mystery, and the delectable challenge it offers on its higher difficulty levels more than make up for the parts that left me soured.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a strong adventure that delivers a clever twist on Greek mythology rather than the games its spun off of. It combines strong combat, exploration and atmosphere with some gnarly creature encounters in a clever way, though the puzzles are uneven and the mechanics are largely derivative. Regardless, Sophia's journey is intriguing from beginning to end, making Resonance a memorable adventure even if its resemblance to the Plague Tale games are fleeting.

Part-Uncharted and part-Assassin's Creed, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is an absolutely fantastic adventure. With excellent combat, bombastic set pieces, great characters, compelling storytelling, and great central mysteries, this might be the best entry in a franchise that can seemingly do no wrong.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy proves that this universe doesn’t need to belong exclusively to Amicia, Hugo or even the rats. There are other stories worth telling in this world, and if this is what Asobo can do with Sophia, then I genuinely hope the A Plague Tale Legacy name becomes an opportunity to explore even more of them.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a good example of an AA game, offering over a dozen hours of immersive gameplay in beautiful presentation (that music!). At times, it feels like watching an interactive film that occasionally lets you take the reins, and some of the mechanics seem a bit shoehorned in, but this is balanced out by engaging puzzles. I’m not likely to miss Sophia and her adventures, but ‘raiding’ ancient ruins was a lot of fun.

It's not a title to buy sight unseen on day one, especially in such a crowded period of major releases, but it's still a production that deserves to be slowly picked up in the months to come, especially by those who loved Innocence and Requiem and want to continue exploring this universe.
