I really want to like “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.” It looks fantastic, features a protagonist with a rough-and-tumble personality, and offers well-crafted puzzle-solving and exploration gameplay. The idea of following clues from Sophia’s visions instead of a quest line—and solving puzzles to find a mystical treasure in true treasure-hunter style—brings out the Indiana Jones in me.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is another great entry in the series, with strong characters, involved puzzles, a dense atmosphere, and a terrifying creature that constantly feels like it’s hunting you from the shadows. Its revamped combat doesn’t quite reach the same heights, but Sophia and Leni’s relationship and the game’s exploration of companionship, grief, and parental figures beyond blood are what I’ll remember most. Resonance doesn’t reinvent the A Plague Tale wheel, but it understands what made the previous games work and puts its own spin on those ideas, even if the combat doesn’t quite hit the mark.

While Amicia and Hugo de Rune got closer to my heart than Sophia, gameplaywise I liked the prequel even more. The versatile sword fights got oomph and as adventure fan the creative puzzles are right up my alley of courrse.

If Asobo Studio has more Sophia stories to mine, I am all for it. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy jumped to my favorite in the series. Despite some combat repetition, the story it tells and the manner in which it is delivered are top-notch.
