D-topia won’t tax your brain muscles as much as some would like, so if you’re expecting some real brain twisters, you’ll be disappointed. But for others this will be a breath of fresh air with its cosy, friendly approach to logic puzzles, alongside its intriguing narrative and fun friendship mechanic.

D-topia is a game that I was intrigued by after playing the demo, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much I’d end up enjoying it. It surprised me in a lot of good ways. Beneath its cutesy exterior, D-topia is an unexpectedly thought-provoking game. It addresses some deeper topics such as an overreliance on technology and what it means to be human, all in a charming manner.

As often seen in games published by Annapurna Interactive, D-topia is a narrative-driven game with optional puzzle gameplay, both of which Marumittu succeeds in. Tackling the idea of humans, imperfect and unpredictable, living in an AI-driven world is one that is incredibly interesting to me. Though the narrative delivery could’ve been more effective with voice acting, the thought-provoking story carries well. Coupled with a well-designed, sufficiently challenging set of logic-based puzzles, though practically optional, D-topia is a game that I can easily recommend, especially if you’re already familiar with Annapurna-type games.
D-topia is a pleasantly laid-back puzzle game that examines the idea of an AI-made utopia in thought-provoking ways. There are a couple of small things that could be smoothed out, but the unique vibe and enjoyable puzzle-solving are enough to make it worth your time. If you’re looking for a thoughtful but relaxing smaller title to spend some time with this summer, D-topia could certainly be the perfect pick.

'D-TOPIA' is an indie adventure game that follows the story of a Facilitator, a facility administrator living in a distant future utopia operated entirely by AI. Depending on the player's choices, the paradise they oversee can either remain a 'Disigned utopia' or descend into a 'dystopia'. While the game explores deeply philosophical themes, its deliberately slow-paced progression may prove divisive among players.
