Mortal Shell 2 clearly tries to imitate the success of Elden Ring's open world, yet falls drastically short, with a map that can be frustrating to navigate. However, the combat and shell system are where the game shines, offering an enjoyable experience that's sure to give you that Soulslike thrill.

The original Mortal Shell was a straightforward imitation of FromSoftware games. With Mortal Shell 2, however, the US-based team has changed course, creating a title with highly interesting mechanics. Mortal Shell 2 boasts solid gameplay and well-structured level design. Despite a few sporadic bugs and some balancing issues, Mortal Shell 2 is a title destined to rank among the best Soulslikes. We only hope that the recent release of other major titles doesn't hurt its sales. The attractive price point of €49.99 certainly serves as a strong incentive to buy.

Mortal Shell II is a strong sequel with smoother combat, excellent exploration, more customization, and improved bosses. Limited enemy variety holds it back, but it's an incredible Soulslike for fans of the genre.

Mortal Shell 2’s expansion into a large scale action-RPG is mostly successful, and all of its new ideas are great ones.

Being smacked around by a boss in one of these games until I finally get the upper hand is basically my happy place.

Mortal Shell 2 constantly surprised me, whether it was the mechanics behind a newly discovered Shell, the layered improvements to combat, a bulbous monstrosity of a boss fight that was more mouth than anything else, or the ways you can tinker with a build and make it wholly your own.

Mortal Shell II is a 'fun-forward' souls-like, one that values flexibility and variety over sheer difficulty. It grabs you and plies you with a plethora of options for tackling its monsters, dungeons, and bosses, handing you shiny toys and trusts you to work out what to do with them.

If Cold Symmetry can fix the bugs that plague some of the bosses, Mortal Shell II will go down as one of the best Soulslikes on the market right now.

The closest thing the Soulslike genre has to an accessible entry point, with excellent combat and an impressive array of customisation options to suit every level of player.

Mortal Shell II is a fun and action-packed Souls-like RPG, and in terms of gameplay and battles it's a delight. It's just a shame that the style, visuals, and overall aesthetic aren't nearly as impressive.

Mortal Shell 2 is one of the best follow-up sequels to a game in a long time. It expands upon every single aspect of the first game, twists deeper into its metal roots, and hammers out the dents of the original title while retaining the same brutal, unforgiving gameplay Soulslike fanatics have come to masochistically enjoy. Mortal Shell 2 slays.

Only a few bugs, a bit more polish, and the somewhat weak narrative might pose a problem, but none of that detracts from the fact that Mortal Shell 2 is a high-quality soulslike . You're going to have a blast playing it.

Mortal Shell 2 is a full reinvention of the middling original, turning it into a refined and distinctive Soulslike centered on the use of its unique Shell mechanic with abilities that mix freely with a respectable weapon roster. World design sees a major leap forward, offering expansive, interconnected areas that reward exploration far more cleanly than the first game’s confusing layout.

Mortal Shell II certainly has its flaws and room for improvement, but the qualitative leap compared to the first chapter is undeniable: this is the sequel that demonstrates the true potential of Cold Symmetry.

I had an absolute blast with Mortal Shell II; it's not only a competitive, difficult Soulslike, but it also brings much-needed, welcome updates to the genre. Come for the combat and the exploration; stay for the fun and brutality.

Mortal Shell 2 is a soulslike that cuts to the chase. It's home to a stuffed interconnected world with a wide variety of enemies, dungeons, and little secrets, which make it a delight to explore. Each discovery of a new shell, weapon, or sidearm meaningfully impacts your playstyle, and levelling up is a fun and satisfying process. It loses steam a little towards the end, with some irritating backtracking, but overall this is a brilliant new addition to the genre and, by all accounts, a far improved sequel.
