STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT Reviews
MAGES brings back the second entry in the Science Adventure series with STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT.
Whether you're stepping into the Future Gadget Lab for the very first time or returning after years watching just the anime, this remake captures everything that made Steins;Gate unforgettable. It's not a perfect remake, but it's easily now the definitive way to experience one of gaming's finest science-fiction stories.
STEINS;GATE REBOOT brings sharp new art and presentation to an already classic sci-fi story. While some wrinkles in the presentation might upset longtime fans, this is an incredible way to experience one of the best time travel stories in gaming.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is the best version of the classic story, even with some caveats.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot offers players narrative complexity, compelling characters, and a tale literally for the ages.
STEIN'SGATE RE:BOOT is good because STEINS;GATE as a story is, but doesn't make a great case as a remake. It has beautiful backgrounds but mixed characters.
STEINS;GATE's place in the medium hardly needs explaining. It has long since established itself as one of the most successful visual novels ever made. With STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT completely remaking the original using modern technology, there was little reason to expect much in the way of new content. All it really needed to do was preserve as much of the original experience as possible. Fortunately, STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT does a pretty good job of that, at least more so than STEINS;GATE ELITE.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot remains an excellent visual novel because its character relationships and meticulously constructed time-travel narrative are still remarkably powerful.
While STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is an enjoyable return, the steep price tag and limited addition of new story content may deter both new and old players alike.
Whatever the reason, Re:Boot is the definitive edition of a true giant of the visual novel genre. As long as you can get along with the tweaked art direction, I doubt you’re going to have any complaints with Re:Boot.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is an acceptable but not particularly exciting remake of Steins;Gate Elite. There's enough new content to make it an easy recommendation for anyone who's curious about the franchise, but it's not enough to make it especially compelling for long-term fans. The updated visuals give the game a more modern look, but that comes at the cost of some of the personality and flavor of the original. If you're looking for a heady, convoluted sci-fi story with some neat bits of interactivity, Steins;Gate Re:Boot is worth a shot. For anyone who already owns a previous version, there's little reason to rush out and buy it again.
Although Steins;Gate RE:BOOT isn't a flawless remake with its simplified text and new art style, it fully preserves the engaging narrative, lovable characters, and the emotional weight of altering reality. This title doesn't replace the 2009 original; rather, it creates a new branch in the series a small change that has given rise to a different yet valuable reality.

Playing through STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT as someone who has never really read or played the original or the ELITE re-release was a great experience from beginning to end. While there are some frustrations with a lack of subtitles on images and the text crunch, I feel like I now understand just why people hold this game in such high regard. Once those issues I've mentioned have been ironed out, I can safely say this could be perfect for those looking to learn more about Rintaro and his journey.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT presents itself as a polished remake, successfully reimagining a milestone of the genre with a modern twist. For those who have never experienced the series, this re-release is undoubtedly the ideal entry point, thanks to its outstanding visuals and sound design, as well as a more streamlined and dynamic narrative. Conversely, for series veterans, even at the full launch price, the package serves more as a complementary addition than an indispensable replacement. It doesn’t overwrite the previous timelines but stands, in every respect, as a new, fascinating worldline to explore.

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is a story that requires patience, but one that more than rewards that patience.

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is a thoughtful and beautifully presented modernization of one of visual novels’ greatest stories, with gorgeous redrawn artwork, excellent re-recorded voice acting, a refreshed soundtrack, and worthwhile new content such as the Gamma route. Its outdated phone system, occasional overlong scientific exposition, reliance on the Elite scenario structure, and high price hold it back slightly, but for newcomers it is arguably the most accessible way to experience this unforgettable sci-fi story.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot is its own unique spin on the original game, and it doesn't do anything directly wrong to change the previous attempts, making this remake stuck in a sort of limbo.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot preserves the original visual novel’s excellent character writing, emotional relationships, and carefully constructed story, but struggles to justify its existence as yet another remake.
While the era of the 2010s Akihabara people may be dwindling, STEINS; GATE RE: BOOT manages to recapture and preserve their nostalgia in a great way. It stands shoulder to shoulder with its original counterpart for the most part. It remains one of the best visual novels ever made. While the cut content may upset some of the older fans, it greatly improves the pacing for the new audiences. Still, considering its hefty price, you can consider buying this at launch if you are a diehard fan or waiting for a sale.
Steins;Gate RE:BOOT, even in its new and revamped version, remains a high-quality visual novel that handles the theme of time travel in an innovative and believable way. At times, however, it feels a little too much like a scientific lecture, and it could do a better job of clearly showing the player how their decisions affect the story.
