Crimson Moon is limited in virtually everything, such as gameplay and diversity, and makes little use of the genres it's based on. With a low cost and functional co-op, it can still be a cheap option for a few hours of fun without being taken too seriously.

Crimson Moon is a gorgeous, punishing roguelike that forces a constant battle with your own reflexes, offering plenty of gothic atmosphere and satisfying builds if you can tolerate its rough edges, clumsy inventory management, and bruising combat difficulty. Other than that, it’s a different take on a roguelike meets Soulslike, so enjoy dying.

Crimson Moon falls into the territory of those games that I still see potential in, but that didn't captivate me. Updates like a better camera, clearer explanations, more weapons, and some quality-of-life improvements could significantly change the experience. However, today the fun still needs to be unearthed beneath the many problems the game itself has created.

I had a lot of fun with the game’s combat, which supports both solo and duo play. I can easily see developer Probably Monsters adding more levels, monsters, and gear. With a few patches to iron out the camera, Crimson Moon will be a solid choice for fans of fantasy action

Crimson Moon from developer ProbablyMonsters is a gorgeous action RPG roguelike that is quite the uphill battle at the get-go. Still, thanks to good backend and frontend rewards, it makes the difficulty worthwhile. The controls do need some work, as do consistent updates, but in the end it’s more fun than not.

Crimson Moon is what happens when you combine Soulslikes, Roguelikes, and tie it together with good music. A good time for action fans.

At the end of the day, Crimson Moon doesn’t need to reinvent the Soulslike genre to be worth your time. It knows exactly what it wants to be, a quick, loot-heavy romp you can tackle solo or with a friend, and it does that well enough to earn a spot in your rotation. The camera hiccups and a few control quirks keep it from being a home run, but for $20, it’s an easy recommendation. Sometimes a game doesn’t have to blow you away to be worth playing, and Crimson Moon proves that.

Crimson Moon is an action game that feels interesting and even appealing at first, but it doesn’t take long before serious gameplay issues become evident—problems that especially hinder fans of the soulslike genre.

Crimson Moon isn’t trying to reinvent the genre. Its Soulslike combat, roguelite structure, action-RPG loot, and Darksiders-inspired fantasy aesthetic are all familiar ideas. What matters is how well they work together—and for the most part, they do.

Crimson Moon is a cooperative roguelike with potential. It features beautiful settings and competent gameplay despite some issues and includes Portuguese subtitles. However, it lacks polish in several areas; bugs need fixing, combat requires refinement, and most importantly enemy durability needs adjustment. This makes it difficult to recommend the project, at least in its current state, given that there are better titles in the genre.

However, those playing "Crimson Moon" solo will be less impressed. It offers too little that's fresh or new. The setting is familiar, and the story isn't particularly compelling. Still, the gameplay is decent.

There was clearly an attempt to make a good game here. While Crimson Moon’s Unreal Engine-driven environments and the great progression system try their best to carry the experience, the final result is constantly suffocated by the convoluted story, a limited weapon pool, and a lack of accessibility options. Even when the co-op action starts to click, the lethal camera system and the game’s inability to prepare you for its mechanics quickly kill the momentum.

Crimson Moon does have its rough camera and combat issues, but the $20 price tag, adjustable builds, short runs, and fun co-op make it easy to recommend to Soulslike fans looking for a more manageable experience.

If you’re a fan of killing demons and the like as an angelic force of destruction, then Crimson Moon is easily worth the $19.99 USD asking price. And hell, even if you’re not, it might still be worth it just to have another fun co-op game to play with friends.

Crimson Moon is no masterpiece in a year replete with them, but it’s a decent debut for ProbablyMonsters, nonetheless.

While its less-than-stellar features can be a game-breaker for some, Crimson Moon is an engaging, unique game that offers several great features.

Crimson Moon has a very short honeymoon period before the repetition sets in, and it becomes clear that there isn’t much content or randomization to be found in the game. The great armor designs are definitely something to note, but even that is unfortunately soured by the lack of a transmog system, forcing you to choose between either looking or performing your best. Its biggest draw at the moment is its straightforward co-op gameplay in a souls-like style, something the genre desperately lacks, but it’s difficult to find the drive to keep going on runs when the map and enemy variety, as well as the slow meta-progression system, don’t provide many incentives. Hopefully Crimson Moon finds more ways to keep the player engaged in the future, but in its current state, it feels somewhat incomplete.

Overall, Crimson Moon is a solid, highly accessible action game that succeeds by focusing on fast-paced, "run-the-gauntlet" combat, deep gear customization, visceral executions, and a standout symphonic metal soundtrack. While its weak narrative, repetitive side quests, and limited execution animations prevent it from reaching greater heights, it remains a thoroughly enjoyable experience if you go in with managed expectations.
