Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter captures everything that made the original so endearing while giving it an impressive makeover that enhances its elegant storytelling and charismatic cast.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter continues the saga of Estelle Bright in an epic RPG adventure.
This remake proves that it's entirely possible to craft a title that satisfies every single side of a JRPG fan and cements itself as one of the finest titles the genre has to offer today.
They’re massive storytelling endeavors that are always compelling in their ambition and earnestness, with a massive cast of characters who are a joy to spend time with. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is very much an iterative sequel to the first remake, and that’s all it really needed to be.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is an excellent remake that successfully modernizes Falcom's classic JRPG without compromising its stellar narrative. By integrating the snappy hybrid combat mechanics from Trails through Daybreak, a seamless world structure, and quality-of-life additions like High Speed Mode, the game eliminates virtually all dated gameplay friction, making it a must-play for every fan of the genre, even with its slow-paced nature.
While my love for the Trails series is well documented at this point, it was back when I completed the original Trails in the Sky SC that it became a full-on obsession. To see such an important game to me, remade with such love and care warms my heart. Whether you are a veteran of the series like myself or a new fan discovering the series with these remakes, you are in for a treat- or perhaps, a new obsession.
Direct sequels simply don't get much better than Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. With its already excellent predecessor setting the stage, this brilliantly heartfelt RPG is free to tell an outstanding character-driven story.
All in all, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a great update to a legendary title. I had a great time plunging back into Liberl, and I think you will, too.
Another swing and another home run for GungHo. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is another stellar remake that provides plenty of quality of life improvements over the first game but also tells a fantastic story with plenty of added cutscenes and fantastic voice work. Though the majority of the games exploration and combat haven't gotten many updates, they don't really need to as the Trails games have some of the best combat in JRPG's going right now.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter continues its winning streak with excellent storytelling, robust and fluid hybrid action/turn-based combat, and jaw-dropping music and environmental design.
Trails in the Sky Second Chapter is a superb sequel that builds meaningfully on its predecessor while modernizing one of the series' most beloved adventures.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is an incredible sequel and a thrilling worldbuilding adventure in its own right.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter improves on the goodwill built by its predecessor rather than just coasting on it, building one of the strongest JRPGs of this generation.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is the Trails series at its peak. Refined gameplay, better-balanced party systems, an amazing story, and huge character depth make this a must-play title.
Without a doubt, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter successfully makes the series great again today, cementing its place as one of the most essential JRPGs of the year. It perfectly maintains the stellar standard set by the 1st game regarding the combat system, dungeon design, rich attention to detail, and narrative pacing. Naturally, you will only get the fully complete experience out of the 2nd game if you have already played through the 1st.

Building upon the already excellent work done in the remake of the first game, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a masterclass in how to make a JRPG. Its story holds up as one of the best the genre has ever seen, even 20 years after its original release, and its completely updated gameplay further enhances the already great structure of 1st Chapter. Fans of the genre must play it.

Trails in the Sky: 2nd Chapter is a darn fine RPG and exactly what its title promises: the second half of a two-part game. It doesn't try to reinvent the formula, and its modest combat additions don't substantially change the experience. Instead, its greatest strength is the story, which finally delivers the payoff to Estelle and Joshua's journey and builds toward an exciting conclusion. If you enjoyed 1st Chapter, 2nd Chapter is an easy recommendation. It may not dramatically change the gameplay, but its stronger story, satisfying character arcs, and excellent climax make it one of the standout entries in the Trails series.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a significantly bigger video game than its predecessor, so if you're open to an RPG that can easily take 60-100 hours, you'll find one here that's worthy of your time. I did find the impact a bit muted compared to the tighter 1st Chapter and its focus on Joshua and Estelle as a pair, but Estelle herself does well to carry the sequel with the help of her familiar comrades. Even though 2nd Chapter doesn't bring a lot of new innovations, it runs exquisitely on Switch 2 in both configurations. Certainly, you'd want to play the first game beforehand, but when you're ready for more Trails in the Sky, 2nd Chapter is a great follow-up to the almost flawless 1st Chapter.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is such an excellent RPG follow-up so if you played and enjoyed the first remake, you're bound to fall in love with this freshly remade sequel in all of its characterful good times. 📓
