Two games in, this remake is making a very strong case for why Trails in the Sky deserves to be revisited. The story and characters remain the heart of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, and the new presentation makes Liberl feel more alive than ever. Some dungeons drag, and the sheer amount of dialogue can test your patience, but there is so much good here that I was already wishing for the 3rd Chapter before I was even done with the game.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is another masterful remake that brings the classic game to a new audience with its brilliant storytelling, excellent gameplay loop, and wonderful visuals. It builds upon the success of the first game perfectly, and whilst there will be some sense of familiarity with its world and some of the gameplay mechanics, it does more than enough to stand out as a star of the genre in its own right. If you played the first game, this is a simply unmissable follow-up that just shows how special the Trails series really is.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is the payoff 1st Chapter was building toward. The dungeons and backtracking keep it just short of perfect, but the storytelling and presentation are as good as RPGs get right now.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is one of the best JRPGs of 2026 and as a must-play title for fans of Nihon Falcom’s game series. Players will find a deep story filled with endearing, well-developed characters and an excellent evolution of the hybrid combat system. Although the leisurely pace of the early chapters slightly slows initial progression, the quality-of-life improvements, refreshed visuals, and the powerful conclusion—which kicks off the climax of the Liberl region arc—deliver an outstanding experience designed for both newcomers and veterans of The Legend of Heroes universe.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter picks up directly where the climactic ending of the first chapter left off. Estelle is once again on Joshua’s trail and continues her fight against the evil Ouroboros. The story is full of plot twists, but what stands out most in the series is the excellent construction of a detailed and believable world, thanks in part to the many well-developed supporting characters. The gameplay remains top-notch, featuring a hybrid combat system that blends action and turn-based elements, along with a well-designed character progression system. Technically, the game certainly isn’t at the cutting edge of this generation, and the environments, in particular, lack detail but the audio is excellent, with very expressive Japanese voice acting and a soundtrack that effectively complements the narrative. Unfortunately, it’s worth noting that once again, there is no Italian translation. But 2nd Chapter remains an outstanding JRPG, and we can’t wait for the upcoming remakes and the continuation of this long-running series!

Trails in the Sky: 2nd Chapter expands its predecessor with richer world-building, stronger character development, and deeper combat customisation. Its hybrid battle system remains engaging, but frequent backtracking, lengthy cutscenes, and repetitive dungeon layouts occasionally undermine the pacing. Even so, it delivers a substantial and satisfying continuation.
This is how you do a Remaster! The newly added hybrid combat mechanics are as brilliant as the classic Quartz systems. Spanning over 700.000 words with none wasted Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is among the best the genre has to offer.

The task of remaking one of the greatest games of all time is a hefty one that most developers would be wise to avoid trying. Despite that, Falcom has put their best foot forward an delivered a near-perfect game that is sure to please any fan of the RPG genre, be they hardcore or casual. While Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter doesn't quite live up to the original game, it's still one of the best RPGs of this generation and should be given your time and attention.
