And in the process, it’s created an RPG powerhouse that can stand alongside the genre’s greats.

Trails in the Sky: 2nd Chapter is more of the same, and that is definitely a good thing. It's part of an exemplary remake cycle that rivals Final Fantasy VII's.The new adventure takes us back through familiar areas while continuing the journey of Estelle and Joshua Bright. The 3rd Chapter will push the siblings into the background, but on the strength of these updates, that can't come soon enough.
This remake proves that it's entirely possible to craft a title that satisfies every single side of a JRPG fan and cements itself as one of the finest titles the genre has to offer today.
They’re massive storytelling endeavors that are always compelling in their ambition and earnestness, with a massive cast of characters who are a joy to spend time with. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is very much an iterative sequel to the first remake, and that’s all it really needed to be.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is an excellent remake that successfully modernizes Falcom's classic JRPG without compromising its stellar narrative. By integrating the snappy hybrid combat mechanics from Trails through Daybreak, a seamless world structure, and quality-of-life additions like High Speed Mode, the game eliminates virtually all dated gameplay friction, making it a must-play for every fan of the genre, even with its slow-paced nature.
While my love for the Trails series is well documented at this point, it was back when I completed the original Trails in the Sky SC that it became a full-on obsession. To see such an important game to me, remade with such love and care warms my heart. Whether you are a veteran of the series like myself or a new fan discovering the series with these remakes, you are in for a treat- or perhaps, a new obsession.
Direct sequels simply don't get much better than Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. With its already excellent predecessor setting the stage, this brilliantly heartfelt RPG is free to tell an outstanding character-driven story.
All in all, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a great update to a legendary title. I had a great time plunging back into Liberl, and I think you will, too.
Another swing and another home run for GungHo. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is another stellar remake that provides plenty of quality of life improvements over the first game but also tells a fantastic story with plenty of added cutscenes and fantastic voice work. Though the majority of the games exploration and combat haven't gotten many updates, they don't really need to as the Trails games have some of the best combat in JRPG's going right now.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a phenomenal game, but places so much focus on its story that the gameplay can occasionally feel like an afterthought.

Trails in the Sky Chapter 2 has prepared an incredible feast for fans of the series and has become the best Trails game to date. Especially if you consider both games as a package, you will probably have witnessed one of the best adventures in history.
